    Hi Everyone,

Havent done any updates for a while as working on the field doesnt always give me much time.

As most of you saw, @MariaS posted one of the tanks for sale so that we could upgrade that tank as well
The stingray family has grown and most have reached or are reaching maturity and breeding age and the time has come where we are forced to separate the males from the females as they will literally harass and bite the females to death in an attempt to breed

So... last weekend we said goodby to an awesome tank where some of the rays have been raised for some time
The fish have all been spread out between my other tanks and @MariaS tanks which are pretty overstocked at the moment but touch wood everyone is doing fine however the females are taking strain with the males being with them and harassing them all the time
We will have to monitor them and hope they all ok for the next 4 weeks otherwise we might have to put up a smaller emergency tank to separate the males
It wasnt an easy task.. but we did it

So.. yesterday we started with the new tank

The stand was built by a friend of mine with tons of reinforcing to cope with the weight it will have to withstand

Sump is 2m long and I had already put i in place last weekend

Builder arrived on Saturday (faithful James) and got stuck in

The tank is 3.2m long at the back and 3.3m long in front as its built at a slight angle towards the corner of the walls
The base will be just over 30mm with a floating base
Glass is 15mm and the tank will have double Euro bracing.
The braces across will be double 12mm glass
It will also be braced/reinforced vertically at every corner

The overflow box will have two holes, one for the overflow and the other to run a pvc pipe for any wiring

    First two bases went in

    And finally the front

The tank will now be allowed to stand and dry a few days after which James will come back and do the last (floating base) as well as all the bracing and drilling

We called it quits for the day after this

    Thanks @Reedfish

Work has been hectic this year and I have spent most of the time on the field and often away from home doing installations
Time just goes and you barely find time to do the things you need to do

This tank build has been a necessity for a while but there just wasnt enough time
Things have changes a bit and hopefully I will be around more often

    Thanks @top dog,

Always a pleasure and you welcome anytime

I believe you have also been very busy.... fortunately I didnt have to pull out the windows!!
Awesome tank you setting up for the rays, congratulations!

Filtration... starting off with the sump which is just over 2m
Will start with batting, next ceramics, matrix and lava rock, then one of the compartments is 600 x 600 x 600 and that will be fluidized K1 media, and lastly batting again as a polisher

The amount of media this sump holds will comfortably handle 6 rays and couple tank mates

However, Im having two holes drilled
For now I will probably run my wiring through a pvc pipe on the second hole and the first one will be the overflow for this sump however, should the need ever arise for extra filtration, the second hole will be there ready to run a second sump

The plan once this tank build is finished, up and running and I can sort all the fish out, is to do a drip system on this tank, my other big tank and on Maria's big tank as a matter of priority as that will be a great help too as we should be able to cut water changes down to every second week instead of weekly

    Edit
Have also bought a set of 4 wave makers for one side of the tank to push all debris into the overflow

I'll be following this for sure. At some point you guys need to stop calling them fish tanks, and start calling them swimming pools.

Good luck with the rest of it!

    @Cesar,
Yup, I know what you mean re work. The final 1/3 of last year was also very busy for me.
Fortunately it’s quietened down a bit.

    Anyways, following your project.
Agree with @SalmonAfrica - I think you should call your new tank The Pool. :)

Best thing about custom tank you can tailor it to your needs. What a massive build wont be surprise of you going bigger in 2 years time.

    Damn nice. Good luck

    Thanks @Innocent159 ..

Yes.. its nice to be able to have the tank made the way you want it.

Hahha.. cant go any bigger inside the house....this is the second one, this big, in the house... I will be kicked out!!!

The idea of a fish room with a breeding pond is niggling at the back of my mind but we will have to see how things go
For now I have a lot I still need to do

Well, if you ever decide a fish room is in order, and need an extra pair of hands, I'm sure I could free up a weekend or two.

Anyway I'm glad that the "koi pond" is under new management

    The floating base was done

I was fortunate enough to have some time this afternoon and I have started with some of the wiring

I decided to put up a DB Board just for the tank

    816.jpg

My return pump, air pump and UV are already connected to the DB board

I am pleased with the progress so far..

Tomorrow the bottom bracing will be done as well as the overflow box....
