The Gar must be a nice size by now. Is he not aggressive?

He is about ... 30cm... could be 1 or 2 more..
But Florida Gars are slow growers, not like the alligator gar that every time you look at it, it looks bigger!!
They extremely placid.... just mind their own business and dont bother anyone at all.
You have to accept though that it is a predator fish and although it wont bite or take on big fish, small fish will likely end as breakfast
Just took a quick picture of him

    Thanks @Nico Hamman

Hahhhaha...Very dangerous to let Maria babysit....

She has already said I can only have one of the Irwini catfish back...... so I have already lost one there...
Now she is trying to hi jack my Gar too!!!....

I put the Blue Base baby in this morning and she looks very happy in the Ocean because she ate like a little piggy tonight..
Will give her a few days now to settle and then I will take the Gar

Will take some pictures tomorrow.... forgot to take some before I fed and you cant take pictures after my rays have eaten!!

Oh Wow @Cesar, this is just to awesome. It must be amazing to build a tank exactly as you want it. How many liters will it be once done?

I have a a couple of small wild ideas for a custom tank, how do the tank builders quote? Do you supply materials and they provide the time and skill?

    Thanks @David Kusner
    The tank is about 3600l
    The sump about 500

The stank builder i use, you give him the drawing with measurements and he will give you quote for the tank. .glass.. labour .. whatever you want
    After thar I diy everything

OK thats a lot of water. What type of water changes are you planning? Also how do you heat that volume of water and keep it at a constant temp?

    @David Kusner,
Im doing 60% weekly sometimes a little more on all the tanks
We on borehole water which is a huge help and i fill water straight from the tap wih a mixer so its filled at the right temperature

I have 4 X 500w heaters in there ( same as my other tank) but in summer they have actually all been switched off and i still have a fan blowing at the tanks

Last winter on my other tank, except for the two or three cold spells we had for 3 or 4 days, when i had to switch on the 4 heaters, i was ok with 2 or 3 on for the whole of winter
My lounge gets sunlight the whole afternoon in winter which helps a lot but also the large volume of water, contrary to what you would imagine actually takes much longer to drop temperature overnight so its actually not too bad
Doing water changes with water at the right temperature also avoids drops that you have to reheat

Sorry @top dog.. this field work gets hectic at times

    An overdue update...

Tank is running great, crystal clear water..
Everyone settling in nicely and putting on nice growth with no problems so far

The friedrichsthalii, so far so good and behaving. In fact Aro is the little bugger and doesnt like them for some reason... actually she is a bugger to everyone except the rays
They have taken over a cave in the wood but otherwise ok.... so time will tell
The Persei cichlids are starting to how their colours and looking nice, they have been very peaceful so far

    Some random pictures
