    Afternoon fellow Aquarist ..

    My first time on a fish forum .. after keeping fish for around 15 years ..
    Started off with gold fish in a little 2 foot .. and some what 10 years ago i purchased a 3ft when i started stocking warm water fish .. mainly kept tinfoil barbs, silver dollars, and still have my pair of Red Tail Cigar Sharks .. which are now 5 years old, as well as a silver dollar that i got with them ..

    About 5 months back i came across an add for a 4ft with internal " sump ", made an offer .. and collected it a few days later ...
    the 4 foot now stocks my Pair Cigar Sharks .. 1 Silver Dollar .. 2 Spotted Dollars .. 1 Green Severum .. 1 Paradise Fish .. 1 Pleco .. and because i had the bigger tank now, i could finally get one of my Favourite All Time Fish ... Silver Arowana !
    i have always loved their shape, and majestic way of cruising the water ..
    i got him at 3-4" long, rather skinny on the 25th of March 2017 ..
    He now is around 9-10" long and definitely rules the tank .. he has even grown bigger than the Cigar Sharks ..

    I will be collecting a 5ft soon, and will document the setup of that .. looking forward to being on TASA and sharing this hobby with all of you!

    @Teezy_Aro ,

    Hi and welcome to TASA

    You have a nice collection of fish, nice tank.
    Congratulations on your arowana..
    Please dont take this wrong way.. but... if you can... get a tank bigger than 5ft... she will far outgrow that tank in probably a year

    Hi,
    And welcome to the Forum

    I have to agree with @MariaS
    They can grow to almost 3ft. Will need a lot of room

    @Hendre @MariaS @Reedfish

    Thanks so much ..
    and yes i know they get ALOT bigger than what he is now, or what i can imagine him to be .. im getting the 5ft at a really great price hence why im considering it for the short term .. will definitely look at bigger options as he grows

    Welcome. Good to see a new aro keeper. Skip the 5ft and go as big as you can on the next tank, trust us, they get big quick. I currently have an almost 2 footer in a 1.8m, not cramped yet but he's getting there. Also keep the lid down with weight or something, they are very jumpy and strong.

    What are you feeding him?

    @BoelderBeestie My Problem with getting something bigger than a 5ish ft for now is that it will not fit in the place of my 4ft .. as this sits along side of the bar counter ..
    but yeah i can always reuse the 5ft when i need to upgrade .. and by then im hoping to have my own place, so i can really go all out with a setup ..

    i have since then removed the slate and rocks from the tank as the Cigars were hitting them pretty hard .. figured i'd relook at things when i get the bigger tank in ..

    You can try prawn tail too. Mine loves it. My aro tank is an empty bare bottom, much easier to clean and maintain and the fish has all the space for himself. You are in for a ride though, they become a handful sometimes. You are going to have sports catching him for the move.

    i may not like it that much ... haha .. as i do not eat any seafood at all .. but i'l give him a try with it and see ..

    yes, the next setup will definitely be a black bare bottom .. as great as the white stones look with the black background .. it takes about 2 days for it to start looking like i have not cleaned it in weeks ...
    and i do a 15% water change weekly, and change out the filter floss as well ..
