Hi everyone ,hope everyone is having a gooday ..I recently been watching this one and other few youtubers on the ornamental fish farming in the Philippines...
I have been stunned a few times because they make it look so easy to setup and run a tub/pond of livebears and koi and goldfish.
My question is..a simple homemade tub ..
    1. New water is added and treated or old aquarium water is placed in the tub right ,next .
2.10 to 20 days stocked with over 20guppies I can estimate which looks to be like a 80L or bigger..
3.NO filter ,no gravel or ornaments and sometimes just a air stone only!!
And some hornworth and water lettuce..
4.weekly water changes and BOOM fish are happy and breeding..Like how does that work.. cycled aqurium /pond doesn't have much or for some instance no beneficial bacteria in the water colum....like how do the fish survive in normall old water or new water with most of the time no filters besides plants and in some instances a air stone only...the plants can't be getting rid of all that ammonia and nitrate can it ?
I would be grateful if someone could explain this to me because I'm just stunned ....how and how this it work!?!..

    Thanks in advance .

(Just a update on my restarted aquarium after my established on POPPED...fish are going fine .)

Check out the video that @MariaS posted the other day, it explains this very question very well and he does it with very expensive fish!

Glad your fish are doing fine!

Adding 20 guppies to an uncycled 80L tank all at once isn’t something I’d do personally. Plants will help but even in a heavily planted tank I’d take it much slower than that to avoid a crash and ammonia/ nitrite poisoning. I would’ve added some bacteria eg 8 days of Stability with about 4 fish in until it cycles and then gradually add more.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't to that but it actually works with the guys breeding them in Asia..like where does the beneficial bacteria colonize in that setup..I guess it's one of secrets of breeding fish their

I don’t think it’s best practice and wouldn’t try to copy the method.

Definitely, but have you thought that most of of our fish are bred in those conditions especially livebears for instance ..I think the best way to figure out how this method works is to do more research before attempting this act..like most of out fish from Asia that are sold in put lfs are being done this way ....chech oit Dexter's world channel..now most of his setups with koi have bucket filters but go back a few months back..lie mostly on his albino guppy breeding ..check those out.. he mostly shows them on his topics on how to breed guppies

I do agree with @A new day in that i dont think i would add 20 fish to a 80l tub all in one go

The video i posted on the other thread loos at 1 fish in about 2000l of water

The point of that video is that he explains the different stages of the nitrogen cycle in such an easy to understand way and explains what your test readings mean along the cycle
I am busy with a 3500l at moment but, i am adding stability

Awesome video MariaS, thanks for sharing..
So the basic principle is to start of with couple fish and slowly add few every week or 2 and keep up with your weekly water changes and should be fine to fully stock after 2months..

So let's put it in my small setup..
Even though I added around 10 guppies to a 2 week old water which had no fish just a air stone . ..which was a emergency..I've been dosing nutrafin cycle and a weekly water changes..I do wish I had a ammonia test kit..will have to invest soon in that ..

Watch the video carefully.... once the ammonia is zero you have to wait for the Nitrite to become zero before adding more fish so you need the nitrite test as well

Three weeks ago i added 3 fish to mine.... nearly two weeks later i added my gar and my nitrites went to 1 again
Its now a week later and this morning they were under 0.5 so i added 3 fair size tinfoils
If by Monday i am at zero, i am adding Spooky but then its going to have to wait at least two weeks before i add anything else
So.. at this stage my ammonia has been zero, its my nitrites i am monitoring
I am still adding Stability daily

Ok,I'm going to watch it again until it's in my head....my other question. Just plants and weekly water changes..with no filter is this possible..?in outdoor tubs, like the video I posted on the separate tread..the tub seems fully stocked with fish and plants ..best thing would be every 2nd day water changes or weekly ..but where does the bacteria colonize besides on the surface area of the tub its self?

Studies have shown that hornwort, duckweed and water lettuce actually prefer ammonia over nitrites and nitrates. Diana Walstad actually identified a number of aquatic plants that do.

Would I risk copying those breeders with fish I bought...no...I don't think it's fair to the fish, but if there's one thing you can say about live bearers...they are extremely hardy.

When I just came into the hobby someone from a pet shop told me that if you add live bearers to a new aquarium you cycle it more quickly (utter rubbish, of course) but I threw a bunch of Platys in there (I didn't know any better). They all survived the ordeal...even the 50+ fry they dropped a week after being added. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I believed that they were happy because they were giving birth!

The worst part was that the Nitrite and Nitrate testd they sold me had expired years earlier (I didn't even know you needed to check for stuff like that back then) and they were giving me false readings.

I believe that if you raise fish in poor conditions like that it will have a long term effect on its health and life expectancy.

@Werner,its true about the plants ,but how are these people doing it, we realise that most of out fish are coming from their which they are using the same setups in most cases..that's a question that lots of people couldn't answer when I asked my lfs about it..so from my experience I think and it was mentioned in a few video that daily water changes are extremely important or that system will fail in no time, don't overfeed or overcrowd!!,and yes the plants will help to oxygenate the water and remove some of the toxins but overall thing to do is frequent water changes but that could alter with the PH?,obviously we don't recommend doing such a setup without the proper knowledge on how to perform such things,as it stressful to the fish, basically the name to this UNFILTERD tub,PLease do not try this without proper information.

    Thanks in advance
