    Hi all

I'm on the lookout for getting a bag of Osmocote for pot plant and aquarium use. It turns out the suppliers only stock the Pro version, and the Plus isn't available in SA in bulk. I gave them a call, and the only explanation the supplier was able to give is that the Pro is fully coated with NPK. No mention of other micro nutrients. Also, a 25kg bag, which should last practically forever.

Does anyone have experience with the Pro version? Would it be safe for aquarium use? I think @Pezulu or @f-fish might have an idea

    Thanks

My understanding - just by looking into this now.

    Plus - generation 1 (Discontinued ??? ) Scotts I think it was.
    Pro - generation 2
    Exact - generation 3

Man love all the data you get from them these days.

    https://everris.com/products/ornamental_horticulture/8748-osmocote-pro-8-9m/

Look at the Elemental table ... but first read this http://aquarium-fertilizer.com/nitrogen-n

    For Pro 8-9 month:
    Nitrogen Total (N) 16%
    Nitrate nitrogen (N03-N) 6,3%
    Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4-N) 8,7%
    Urea nitrogen (Ur-N) 1,0%

    vs say

    https://everris.com/products/ornamental_horticulture/8841-osmocote-exact-standard-5-6m/

    Nitrogen Total (N) 15%
    Nitrate nitrogen (N03-N) 6,6%
    Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4-N) 8,4%

but that would just be one of the considerations ... with non-aquarium firtz ... always look for low Cu (overall), B and way higher Fe ...

NH4 is toxic ... to fish but easily consumed by the plants even in the dark cycle (direct consumption), NO3 is way more fish friendly but can only be consumed during the light cycle with photosynthesis providing the energy for the conversion and then consumption. (well something like that ... it has been a while ;-)

    Yup, that's the one.

The copper and Boron levels look pretty low to me. Does it look ok then?

Make sure the tank is mature ....

    Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4-N) 8,7%
    Urea nitrogen (Ur-N) 1,0%

^^^^^ these guys are going to need loads of bacteria ;-)

Then you should be good ... I am keen to see if all the prills dissolve in a couple of month so please keep us posted.. with the Plus think it was the orrange prills that always left a shell.
