    @Pauline

    I've restored this post as per a few members request. Your blatant remark "There is no such thing as a white list" has been counter proved by comments in other threads by Dirk and Henk. @Henk Hugo please provide your comment here.

    As I stated to you in the Private Message I sent to you... I am basing my knowledge on a "whitelist" from conversations I have had with Altum, Dolphin and Henk... who have all imported fish and plants at many various stages... who have all had plants confiscated because they are not on the "whitelist" or "approved list" if you want to call it that. These same plants were not on the blacklist... so what list would you like them to be on?

    And guys... you need to remember.... there are so many various dept involved that the whole thing is in a mess. Literally the one dept says it's ok, the other says it's not. There are acts covering one aspect, then another act covering something else. What is the true law then... THE ENTIRE BODY OF ACTS COMBINED makes the law!

    @ALL MEMBERS
    Dirk has now publically come out and told all of us that he is currently assisting the dept. with regards to the Blacklist. Dirk has also confirmed that the dept. is FULLY aware of this forum, as well as other local forums. One of the strongest points that Dirk uses to his advantage is the fact that fishkeepers in SA are responsible people, and sometimes the responses that we have seen over the past few months aimed against the blacklist and the government has made Dirk's argument's very futile. Our forum is monitored by the relevant Departments. No, they are not members, so they will not provide you with their comments and answers. It is very interesting to note that an extremely heated blacklist debate reared it's head a few months ago. Someone commented in that particular thread that they did not care for the BL, and voiced his/her opinion about the Dept. rather harshly. That same day, one of our members was applying for a plant import permit, and was told that as of 10h00 that morning, no more permits were being issued until the Blacklist has been finalized.

    Thanks @Zoom - I appreciate that you took the time to give more background on the matter. Sometimes members are commenting from completely different perspectives and we should never underestimate the value of a bit of background.

    I was not aware (like Pauline) of the Whitelist, but I am now much better informed. I thought you scanned the BL and if it wasn't there then it means it is acceptable.

    This forum is excellent for Education. Just a suggestion from my side - when newish members indicate that they have especially a fish on the BL; it would be great if we took more time to explain the options. A while ago a new member asked about whether an Oscar can be kept with bass. When told the bass was on the BL and it was illegal to keep it - the first response was what do I with it - there is no dam nearby. (We were very lucky indeed there was no dam nearby!)

    Perhaps a sticky thread for new members - what are your options if you ended up with fish on the BL. I'd guess the most important comments would be to first ensure that the fish never end up in our local dams or rivers (which could mean culling it, not sure everyone will do it). Second thing would be to make sure the place you got the fish from is informed that the fish is on the BL. If it is a LPS they might be unaware and by educating them it could help reduce the problem. (They might not listen, but there is no harm in making sure they know).

    Hi Zoom,

    Thank you for restoring the thread. I am very interested in the whitelist (or approved list) which you mention.

    To anyone who is able to assist,

    (1.) To summarise and please don't hesitate to correct me if I have got this wrong:

    a 'whitelist' or 'approved' list exists?

    the list is currently being updated to a later version and this new updated version is in draft format?

    (2.) Where can we get hold of the current whitelist - to know whether anything we are keeping or acquiring from local stores is legal?
