    Hi Guys and Girls,

As you know I have been planning a new build.

IF you are seeing this thread then you know I have made the commitment to go ahead.

Planted journey | Tropical Aquariums SA - the start and many lessons later led us to:

    Planted Journey Next Gen

This will probably be a slow and steady build up to my one and only planted tank.

Love the dimensions, pretty much also my ideal proportions.
Looking forward to seeing it come alive.

First question regarding the weight of the tank.

Currently have the stand below which holds both the 3ft and 2ft tanks filled but not sure if it will hold the 5ft (calculated 160L I think).

    Excuse the mess above.

I need to know if I need to brace the stand or need a new stand (please say no). I can see the bowing on the picture (looks like it is just the chipboard).
I have extra pieces of 4x2 if needed. Anyone think it will be necessary for bracing.

Only plans I currently have regarding the stand is to add panels and doors.

    Currently have the below equipment:

    Tetra 700 canister
    AquaH2O 1100 canister
    110L HOB
    5 kg CO2 setup

The 3ft (QT) will go below (with the 110 HOB filter) next to the two canisters and CO2 system (behind close doors).

I don't think you'll need a new stand. Maybe just add somemore cross supports under the chipboard. Chipboard will swell so I'd recommend ply wood rather but just my opinion

3ft tank is alreday 100 liters and a 2ft about 50L so you not far off on the weight of the new tank

@A new day this is the only picture I can find as I did not back up the whole folder.

    images (4).jpeg

Does mean that the specific one stood out from all the rest that I dreamed about creating.

NB: Won't mind recreating this scape with more details and lush growth

I can see a lot wrong with the balance of this tank but really loved the look until Final year in University started

I will do so later. That light has some weird times because it's not the digital timer so load shedding throws the cycle out every time.

Loving the inspiration pic @Innocent159

Shallow tank ideal for emersed growth. And yes you’ll make it your own with details and composition

The base of the tank doesn't rest on the unit that the tank is placed on. It is slightly raised.

This ties into my next question regarding the mat or foam pad placed under the tank. Is it still necessary to put one underneath as I do not know where to purchase it in Cape Town. I Have seen yoga mats for reasonable prices.

I have plus minus a Month to get the stand ready for when the tank arrives

Not sure about foam mats, but brackenfell pets sells the normal styrofoam that goes under tanks.

Lastly, would be the frosted background which has been scares judging by a few threads on here.

I will need to get this before the tank arrives as it will be difficult to apply afterwards

A floating based tank doesn't need to rest on polystyrene
If the bottom of the tank rests directly on the stand, yes, you do need it.

For illustration purposes, this is what I think it looks like. As @A new day said the same builder
