The temp drop is normal and tolerable for the fish, providing of course it gets back up to normal temperature after a few hours. Same thing happens my side and my fish are fine.

As for the surface, as a temp solution, use papertowel to gently lift the film out the water.

Nice look, cant wait for it to grow out :)

Thank you. That makes everything simplier. I do clean the surface. Might be because I use the old inlet and outlet (has a lot of debris and decaying matter build up)

Smells earthly and that two hoses is more dirty then the other canister.

I won’t do that for German blue rams (25C already at the bottom of their limit) but for other fish that temporary temp drop should be just fine.

I need to find a middle point for dwarf and GBR. What temp do you keep your tank at @A new day?

I did a water change on Thursday and removed most of the film. This pictures were taken this morning.

I will get two lilly pipes over the weekend. Might consider a surface skimmer if it does not help.

Any idea what can cause this as here is no live stock in the tank. I do see plant waste collecting in the corner of the first picture

It is not unusual for a new setup where the microbial balance isn’t quite dialled in, I had it in the 1,5m also in the early days. It lasted about 2-4 weeks thumb suck.

Water changes will help. You can blot the surface with kitchen towel. Make sure there’s enough surface agitation. Seachem Stability will help.

I know the struggle - i've always had that oily film on my tanks, no matter how long a tank was running. You get small surface skimmers that could help - hide it in a back corner or just drop it in for 30 minutes in the morning

Thank you @A new day I used the cloth to remove some of the film. Hoping it disappears as the tank mature. Plants growing in slowly

Yes if the glass attachment is to expensive I'll just get a separate skimmer

You need to churn the surface of your water and that prevents the film from forming. It doesnt need to be hectic, just some sort of movement to break up the film

Lily pipes certainly helping as it haven't got any worst since last night. Usually takes less then a day to build up a thick layer

    IMG_20210726_203544.jpg

I need loads of plants. Very happy with the condition of the tank. Wood not 100% done soaking

Can this be caused by not using dechlorinator?

Water movement is helping with the film but every 3rd day this appear and i remove it by skimming the water surface

I could be wrong, but I think it’s caused by organics in the water
In this case from the wood

    Tank is looking great.
I'm curious to see if anyone IDs that plant. I don't know nearly enough about aquatic plants to even attempt it, but it does look very similar to a weed that grows prolifically in my garden.
