@Innocent159 , as Ferdie said, do a gravel vac but do it slowly and gently not to lift too much of it all over the tank

Love the AquaClear 50 .... good HOB .. you can do allot with it. The pot is very clever with the overflow at the top etc.

    Later Ferdie

On the 50 I would not plant things in it .. now filling it with batting to polish your water ... that makes sense.

I am but dont have enough.
I have insulating material (the green stuff that make you itch). Would it work?

    Fibreglass?
Def would not put that into a tank. Small particles will prob find their way into the water column, get into the gills and cause irritation.

I used pillow stuffing (new unused pillow) in my filter which worked well.
But it does tend to get clogged quickly and needs regular rinsing.

I agree with @Reedfish.... I would not use fibreglass.... maybe I am wrong but if it can irritate human skin, what will it to the fish's gills?
    Rather be safe..

Depends, the batting we get here is just like the "filter floss" that shops sell

If it's causing an itch to skin then it will cause a problem to the fish.

The filter floss I have seen in the fish shops is not fibreglass used in ceiling insulation

That's different then. Wouldn't use anything that causes irritation
