Yep. Rachel started the challenge just to have some fun during lockdown. Setting up a tank just with what you have at hand, discarded stuff, plants and fish only from your other tanks/tubs etc.

She decided to give herself an additional handicap though, seeing that she has a massive fish room, tons of hardscape material and gets sent a lot of free substrate and equipment from various suppliers so she has a massive stash of everything. She decided to use only stuff that physically happened to touch the floor and nothing from an unopened bag :)

    Thanks!
Good idea, in a month or so I might add some neos. In fact, some of my red cherries produce yellow offspring so I might collect some yellow ones for here? That might be cool?

Light will be a 7watt Philips 6500K ... not adding too much power consumption so happy with that.

The big rock is to keep the wood in the tank ... it was bone dry as it is.

Foundation is done ... might find more plants but for now I think the idea is OK.

Didn't even take long for you to fill the space below the tank.
. Always nice having things at hand

Water is clearing .. and since nothing was rinsed one can expect a few bubbles as things get waterlogged.

Wonder how cold it will get - probably around 16 min in winter.

Marselia, some sort of crypt I think, maybe some mixed monte carlo among, HM and maybe that is a lost strand of hair grass ... hard to say ;-)

I’ll have to do a bit of research into Marselia, I’ve never come across it before. Easy / difficult?

Could never get it to carpet densely - never did it on CO2 - ... but does well outside of the aquarium on Lucky 13 shelf.

It does not look like a clover once it has adapted to aquarium life.

I see the substrate expired in 2017
But what could possibly expire in a substrate? Sounds like nonsense, or what do you think?

Ha ha .. no some LFS shops put the stock date on the price sticker. This was some of the first Langa shipments we got back then if memory serves.

Wonder if the Marselia will open today, the leaves on the shelf are fully open already this morning.

 Yep. The bottom shelf is still open...
Something shallow would work much better, just don’t have anything at hand right now

Above yesterday morning, added some movement to the tank to start clearing the bubbles.

    P5120643.jpg
This morning the dreaded haze was vissble in the tank.

    P5120648.jpg

Added just the airstaone - and in seconds had a wet desk - splatter. Dug up another dome - and actually this box had a spare airstone ... Ok sine it has no instructions, I figure this above is the ideal assembly?

    P5120649.jpg

Strictly speaking it is not a filter ;-) Does not add to surface movement, but is does add a slight amount of water movement in the tank .
