I have a long fin Oscar which is now close to 40cm, that's huge, even in the wild! Even baby Oscars are all over for sale, but most people who buy them will never have enough space for them!

All depends on genetics and feeding. Some oscars only hit 30cm and are perfectly healthy. Why should we assume that every fish will hit its maximum size? The largest recorded gator gar was 150kgs, not 200.

" Mature alligator gar commonly measure 6 ft (1.8 m) in length and weigh over 100 lbs. (45 kg)"

    Correct....

Asian Arowanas, Freshwater stingrays, Datnoids are all in the same category.. what we are getting are captive bred specimens with CITIES certificates which is more than many other wild caughts being brought into the country have

So.... In that respect I dont agree with @TrevorR.. or rather I agree with your views on wild caughts in danger but we not getting any wild caughts here

As for the gar on this thread, @Cesar will give you guys an update soon

With all due respect, Aligator Gars should be banned for home aquariums. Rather go visit one at a zoo in a 100 000 litre tank.

@TrevorR... No one is fighting or disrespecting or disagreeing with the above point
I disagreed with the wild caught point regarding the fish that are coming into the Country which are captive bred

You killing the OP without giving him a chance to even give you guys an update.... which is unfair and in turn puts people off from posting

Yet in your other thread you are willing to put an African Arowana in a 3meter tank, which is also far from ideal.

@MariaS That is why I created my own two independent threads with regard to these two separate controversial subjects. I mean no disrespect if he has enough space to house such a specimen I have no problem with it!

No but you are/were considering it. Platinum Gars as already mentioned are also captive bred.

Yes, I was requesting advice as I don't have much knowledge of keeping them. if you read back, I've already decided that Arowanas are not for me, yet you continue to attack! Besides a 2500 litre tank would be fine for an Arowana, but not for a 25kg+ Aligator Gar!

A tank being "fine" is a far cry from being ideal.
