Some time ago, I started at 14h00 in the afternoon, just doing simple (plus minus) 80% water changes on 70% of my tanks....... I completed at 20h20 and was totally exhausted.....

I think, if you have anything more than 20 tanks, you should employ someone to help out... It becomes a full time daily routine maintenance.... (and no longer a hobby)

I'm sure if you can get just 10 guys with 5 tanks each and charge a negotiable rate per tank, you can make a "family supporting" business out of it??

Does anyone do this for a living?

Nope but i know that people have made big business of it already especially when it comes to marine tanks, i spoke to a guy that does setups(hes just one of the few i know that offer this service) , maintenance etc, he says they charged the elangeni hotel in dbn around r6000 a month just to maintain their tank, and thats one of many customers, i always see his guys busy with the john dories tanks as well, so yes there is money to be made if you get a foothold in the market,

I was actually thinking about it at one point. It might take the enjoyment out of the hobby though...? "oh no, not ANOTHER tank..." sort of thing

I know of a few people doing it. Mostly marine tanks though. (more maintenance and more expensive). You wouldn't want to pay someone R1000/month to maintain your R1000 system but for your 50k system sure...

    I'm not a gyneacologist but I'll take a look.

And what happens if you accidentally kill the tanks live stock? Or you break some expensive equipment? Accidents do happen, you will have to look at some waver or disclaimer if you want to do something like that. Or some legal clause, that or some good insurance.

I've been thinking about this lately. I wonder if I could start of maintaining tanks at a rate of R50 per 30L?

    But then again...

Chances are, if someone owns a tank larger than 30L, they know how to take care of fish....and the tank.

This job is more isolated to marine tanks.

Pistolshrimp you hit it on the head "see his guys busy" ... as a services business you can make almost anything work - i.e. have lower paid wage workers do the grunt work. As a specialist - this is fast probably not the case - very few business work because the owner is the one doing all the work.
