    Hi there fellow fish admirers,

I want to open this thread pertaining to Angelfish in general and wild(&wild caught) Angelfish (P.Altum,P.Leopoldi,P.Scalare)in particular.
So I would like to encourage interested parties to help build this thread with info regaridng all things Angelfish like captive environment, genetics, diet, sexing etc... I realize that information will in some cases be duplicated here that has been shared elsewhere on the site. It will be convenient to refer to a central point where info can be traded...

I have been wondering what would make the ultimate diet for captive Angelfish, wild or otherwise.. To my mind, frozen foods ranked very high on the menu. However, when speaking to a worker at a pet store this past week, I was shocked to hear that some frozen foods are not "washed" properly and could possibly carry certain risks for various forms of contamination and perhaps deseases... I was never aware of this, I felt very naive when I heard this. I was also warned that some comercial foods contain forms of booster steriods for growth and vigor...??? For instance: fish will grow at almost double the avarege growth rate on certain brands etc,,, and that this would hamper reporduction etc... What other implications, sublte or obvious, are the fish exposed to then?

Anyway, is there then a way to get past frozen foods as a part of Angelfish diets? If so then what's decent start? Currently feeding Tetra Prima as a staple diet. If frozen foods make out an essential part of diet, then what should a person be looking for in brand(s)? What would be safe and advisable?

Looks like there's been interesting developements in the pet trade.

    Greets,
    Morné
