Ok - that is a stunning cabinet.

Keep that, get rid of the dining room table and get the beanbag :D

    Awesome!

Is that where the Hillstream tank goes? Who is carrying all these tanks around
    Haha, exciting times!

Thanks @GaryG and @ZubairKhan that tank is super heavy and the hubby is still fast asleep :)

The one issue is that the floor isn’t 100% level. I’ve moved the cabinet to the middle of the wall to check but that’s actually worse there. I’m not sure how to interpret the severity of the issue based on the spirit level reading...? Advice would be much appreciated!

The jungle tank is not 100% level either, not too bad (about the same reading on the spirit level) but it would’ve been noticeable without the hood. Plus it has center bracing.

Happy with the new cabinet. The filter and a multiplug will go in the left door. Top drawer is perfect for my caddy with dry foods, ferts and most frequently used cleaning tools which is handy now that my tanks are strewn across the house. Only thing I would’ve changed on the cabinet is to not have a shelf in the door on the right, it would’ve been great for my wc buckets!

Would a gap of about 12 cm between the cabinet and wall suffice for pipes, cables and access?

I would recommend getting it as level as possible, get it in the right spot first, even if the floor is not as level as you would like because if it is not where you want it it is always going to bug you..I always cut some 8 x 8 cm plastic spacers, normally what I do is to cut up any unwanted bucket lids or something thin like that, First get the level right lengthways, that bubble needs to be spot on centre, with a long aquarium like that a small slope will translate to a massive slope and believe me that is annoying... once level lengthwise then from front to back...double check it a couple times, maybe put some weight on it (one of the kids) and re check it front to back and left to right, take your time and get it 100% you won't be sorry.

    Looks good!

Agree with getting it as level as possible - don’t want any unwanted leaks or runoff in the future either. As Gray said too, use something like plastic strips as they won’t compress too much under the weight. Last thing you want to do is get it all looking great and it sags:/

For space at the back, I’d say 12 is good, but you could potentially go less if you get some access slots in the back panels of the cupboards - that way you can access everything behind from the front of that makes sense. I also find doing that keeps everything feeding to the middle of the cabinet, so nothing slides out the sides or anything like that.

Really is a good looking stand though!

Can the shelf not be moved up a bit to accommodate the buckets and then give you some extra storage too?

    Thanks @TheGrissom @Logz

The hubby and I added spacers, measured multiple times etc etc. as it turns out the even bigger issue was front to back. But it all seems level now, touch wood ;)
Siliconed the tank to the polystyrene and letting it cure a bit
Afterwards will probably test the level again with borehole water before emptying again and adding hardscape.

@Reedfish would you mind changing the thread title to “Putting a custom setup together for the first time” or something along those lines, please?

This thread is under the DIY forum and it probably makes sense at this point to start a new thread under Planted Tanks.

Another massive thank you for everyone whos has helped (and continue to help) navigate me through this
There’s a large amount of very valuable input given that I’m sure will be useful for others in future too. Everything from glass thickness and stands, to filters and lighting and a whole lot more
