    Hi all,

I'm looking for some high quality Discus in the Free State/ Johannesburg/Pretoria area.
I'm a bit of a snob with Discus, so I'd be willing to pay a higher price.
I spoke with Marco and he won't have any available for some time, so here I am searching.:)

    Thanks ~Pete

    Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like he's in Capetown, yup that's a bit far for me unless he shipped.
Kind of sad, seems like with the size of South Africa, there should be more quality discus breeders/ importers here.

Hi guys - I am looking to set up a discus biotope and would like some direction on where to purchase discus for reasonable prices in the Gauteng area.

I've seen a few guys that have come and go over the years. After the first or second batch that fails they normally throw in the towel. a Month or two work down the drain, also the costs can become high after a fail or two, brine shrimp and electricity doesn't come cheap and water is also an issue now.

Yes I'm based in Cape Town and not ready to ship fish unfortunately but it's coming in the future. I've cut down on the breeding a bit since our water here is becoming a huge problem. I'll pick up the pace again once that's sorted. I have about 70 fish i'm growing out at the moment and cutting it very fine with the water.

That won't come cheap or reasonable as you'll require adults for that project.

I understand the costs thing. Luckily (I guess) I'm living in Lesotho, the water comes out of the tap at 7.2 ph and soft. Also water is cheap here. Not sure about the electric costs though.

The power bill is only a worry in winter luckily. I cut down a fair amount using a gas heater to keep the room warm. Ph isn't a concern if it's not in the extremes, mine comes out the tap at 8-8.2.
