Scarlet badis

Hi all I hope I'm not breaking any rules here. I am looking for some scarlet badis badis but the shops by us dont have any. Is there anybody on this forum that breeds them to that has some for sale or know where I can get.

 

I have never heard of them, and didn't know what they looked like until I googled them.
You learn something new every day.

 

They are adorable little hunters. They prefer live food. The males only grow to an 2.5cm long and females about 1.3cm. I love them.

 

Hi Surina, welcome to TASA I think you might be in for a long wait when it comes to hunting dow the badis. Unless you can forge a good relationship with your LFS and arrange an import through them? IME these are kinda rare amongst our mainstream suppliers, and definitely amongst SA forum participators. But a lovely choice though, I like your style Good luck!

 

My lfs had some I got 4. A male and 3 female. I lost 2 females, dunno what from, they turned white from inside, if u understand what I mean. I now have only the 1 male and 1 female, but he kind of bullying her a little so want to get more to spread the aggression. My lfs don't have anymore and I can't find any anywhere. Let's hope mine breeds

 

Awesome to hear, where are you based? I hope you have success with them! Have you checked with your LFS, they might be from a local breeder that you could contact for a pre-order? Are you keeping them in their own setup, or sharing with tankmates?

 

They don't have anymore, first time they've seen the in 5 years. I'll keep checking in and see if they get more. Hopefully I'll get some somewhere. To answer your question they are in a tank by themselves. They did have a Betta in for 4 days till he got stuck behind the filter.. But I'll keep my eyes posted or hope for them to breed

 

You are very lucky to get females. They are as scares as Zebra plecos for R500

My lfs even had blue phantom plecos about 6weeks back. Then came the scarlets. I was in love. I hope these would breed. I feed brine shrimp daily. They seem to love it to chase them down

 

Where are you based? Pet Stop in Pretoria gets them in occasionally

 

Can you please give me the name of the petshop? I'm in PE unfortunately but can ask I'd they fly. I know some places do. If they'll make the flight

I've got mine from petstop a few months ago 4 of them in a 4ft tank is very hard to spot!

There seem to be only males though so no chance of breeding.

They share a tank with neons, two small appistos and two rams. They mind their own business and can hold their own although I will watch the apistos.

Awesome little fish! Plenty of personality. Had a tank with a couple of males in and loved watching them.

 

No idea since i could not find any at our lfs i started asking around and one lfs said they will order me some on their next shipment. Later i got a call and said they cant being them in since the are on the ban list.
