    Hi there,

I have a molly female that has started hanging around the heater quite a lot. She still eats and chases food but always returns to this spot afterward. She chases the guppies if they come close and always returns to this spot if the other mollies chase her.

All the molly care guides I read say that their stomachs look square when they are about to give birth but I don't know how to tell. Would it be worth putting her I'm a breeder box for a couple days incase?

She's been doing this for a day or two. Can't see any signs of ich or fin rot.

Yes it does look as if she’s boxing off (approaching due date)

My plants haven't grown in yet so I thought about using a breeder box so the fry don't get eaten. Is it worth using one, if I put her in one and she doesn't give birth how long should I keep her in it?

She will eat her own fry in the breeder box...they’ll have nowhere to hide from her
Try get your hands on hornwort of something similar for the main tank while you wait for the plants to grow out.

I have more hornwort for you if you're keen. I've never used a breeder box for the reason A New Day mentioned. Works great as cover and a food source at the top of the tank.

When I had livebreeders I used to let them birth in the tank and then move them to the breeder box.

Thanks! I'll give this a try. I still need to go and find one, I was hoping to find the double ones I've seen online just so they have a bit more space.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I got a little worried with the hornwort has it was getting shucked against my submersible filter. Managed to get a big bunch of javafern and planted them a little close together to create some hiding spots.

Side note: if the fish start huddling close to the heater you might want to consider cranking temps up a bit. What temp is the tank running at (actual temp, not what the heater is set at)

The tank is at 24, was told to set the thermometer on the opposite side of the tank to make sure it's accurate. It's only the one female that's there, the rest do their own thing around the tank.
