Silicon Sealer

Guys,

I have to do some repair work on a tank, and have wondered if regular silicone sealer is safe to use on fish tanks. I do know that it's bad in greenhouses, but have idea about fish an aquatic plants.

Use "Marine" silicone, it doesn't contain anything that can kill bacteria and will withstand water;

Usually it is cheaper to buy a chalking gun and a tube than a lot of small tubes;

 

Also the gun makes it easier to do a decent job of things

Do a search on the forum, we have discussed this before in detail, there are vast differences between silicon sealer's, some are useless for aquaria and you really need to be careful or less you are going to have your tank in pieces soon.

Just for the record, Mrdelange, silicon sealant releases acetic acid during the hardening process and this is dangerous for fishes and bacteria, but this will evaporate quickly and then the glue is fine. So if you can't smell the vinegar smell any more, it is fine.
