    Hello everybody,

Been out the hobby for some time now due to moving to NZ, hence the flag as my profile pic before somebody ask where I got them….

Could never find them in SA and the shops that I spoke to were not keen to order them as they have tried in the past and got sold normal ones. I got these from a local breeder for NZ$14 each. Could not get a nice pic of them. Against a black background their spots really stand out.

Beautiful pleco. Works out to about 165 rand. Which I think is a decent price for those

Some of the plecos here, especially imports, are stupidly expensive.

Anything else fancy you get down there that we won't see in SA?

On paper SA has the blacklist that you cant import (dont think any plecos on that list), in NZ you have a list of what you can import. So you can import less species in NZ but I have seen more species of plecos available in NZ than what I have seen in SA.

There is a fish shop about 1/2 hour from me.
They used to get the most fantastic imports from South America ( fancy Plecs, rare Tetras and oddballs) before covid.
But their range has really diminished since.
The shop owner told me that their supplier went insolvent during covid and he now struggles to get the range of fish he used to.

That sucks. Sometimes rare stuff is nice. We get tired of the same thing sometimes
