Now that the plants are in and looking good. It is time to start thinking about fish.

    I would like:
    - a schooling species (top-middle of the tank) - perhaps cardinal tetras/tiger barbs
    - a shoaling species (Bottom of the tank) - perhaps corys
    - 1 feature fish - perhaps a ram/gourami/krib
    - maybe some shrimp

    what would you guys recommend?

2foot sounds big...but for a school it really isn't. so I would go for small fish (tigers will get too big IMO)

Cories will look nice...so go for smaller ones. Pandas (bottom), Habrosus (Bottom) or Pygmies (bottom & middle). The latter are active swimmers and schooling fish, whereas the other are more sociable than true schoolers.

Neons or ember tetras stay small (especially embers) and have striking colours, so having a school of 7-9 would be decent.

Be careful not to overstock your tank...

Ok, I have added some stock to my tank:
    1 X Sunset Dwarf Gourami
1 X Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami
    5 X Lemon Tetra
    5 X Cardinal Tetra

So I wake up this morning and there are only 4 Cardinal Tetras. The one has just vanished, how can this be.

Is it small enough to fit in gourami's mouth?

Too small to fit into the gouramis mouth, I think . It's around 2.5 cm. I don't have a lid on, just the oddysea light on the top. I looked everywhere around the tank and can't find anything.

Even moved all the hardscape around to check under. I'm at a complete loss.

I found my missing cardinal. He was inside my filter. I have no idea how he got in as he is far to big to fit into the intake. but low and behold, found him wedged between the plastic and the sponge inside............and he is alive and swimming fine now.

Aah, man you're own personal freshwater NEMO!

Lol, glad he/she is ok at least. I was also puzzled with the disappearance and thought someone ate the poor guy.
