Had to make a patch for a snail that decided to climb out of its bucket and onto a tiled floor. Super glue and a single sheet of two ply toilet paper later, fixed. Sort of.IMG_20191105_213456.jpg IMG_20191105_213523.jpg IMG_20191105_213528.jpg IMG_20191105_213948.jpg

+1 - Great work! Funnily enough I just came to this thread to ask if its normal for Nerite snails to escape rimless tanks. Found one of mine 4 feet away, on the ground. Still alive so hoping it comes right?

Nerites can survive quite some time out of water.
As long as it hasn't dried out too much, it should survive.

Interesting, thanks. It was still a bit wet, and seems ok.

I see a few nerite eggs in my one tank. They have been fertilised while still in the shop.

Made a nice grow out tank for my little poly

Unfortunately the hornwort mostly melted but it should bounce back.

Nerites continuously lay eggs while in fresh water, but the eggs won't hatch, as they need inter-tidal pools and marine water to grow out in.
They are one of the more difficult snails to successfully breed in captivity, although some people have managed to do it.

Zebra nerites are fond of laying their eggs on the glass of tanks, while Onion nerites prefer laying their eggs on driftwood, spiderwood and other ornaments in the tank.

Yeah I've read up on that. So I guess the eggs are just there for now. If they continue then maybe I'll set up some salt water cups to hatch them in.

I have some horned nerites continuously laying eggs in my tanks. I have set up a brackish tank for the eggs to grow out but the problem comes in moving the eggs. What is laid is an egg pouch. Once laid it hardens on whatever surface it is laid on and is very difficult to get off without breaking. I have transferrred dozens of these pouches to a brackish tank without any success so far. it may be a better option to acclimatize the nerites to the brackish water and leave them there for a few weeks before moving them out again.

credit where due, the artistic vision was not my own, thanks @Figeth .
will be adding a few on the top and planting a whack of java moss to drape over into the water, with any luck capillary feed. if it floats, happy days, island, if it sinks, well, its a cave... half my hardscape is semi buoyant anyway:rolleyes: damn spiderwood

gel superglue was a fail btw, doesnt set, resorted to marine silicon, add a blob to each and attach, then once assembled silicon in gaps before adding second and third layer iceberg style for stability

I feel like a mad scientist, I just bought 4L of 50% hydrogen peroxide. For entirely sane reasons.

You're going to be spot treating a lot with that amount of H2O2.
