Lol the sign of a real braaimaster is that they can do it sideways, apparently

Last night we had braaied fillet with mushroom sauce. My sister in law is a cattle farmer and she brought a stack of meat from the farm - free range, organic and so so yummy!

Last weekend I made tempura waterblommetjies as a starter to the braai. It was delicious and unusual! The waterblommetjies have to be super fresh for this recipe, we got some at Babylonstoren the previous day, they grow them in 2 large ponds.

It is a bit of a process:
    1) Soak in saltwater with a squeeze of lemon juice, preferably overnight. Rinse and pick off anything dodgy.
    2) Blanch for 15mins (slow simmer) in water with lemon juice or white wine vinager
    3) Drain and let dry or pat dry properly
    4) Dust with flour seasoned with salt
    5) Dip in tempura batter and deep fry
    6) Drain on kitchen towel, serve immediately with a squeeze of lemon juice. We had it with a Thai style chilli lime coriander dipping sauce containing fish sauce, which worked very well

Tagging @J’den who might have other waterblommetjie recipes?
