If you add glass sliders then the light should be as close to or on top of the light - the higher you have it form the slider the more light is lost when hitting the glass. Why not try the following, during winter you have glass to keep temp more stable and use less energy, and in summer you can consider planting emersed growth with the light a little higher and no sliders. ?

It does look real cool. Special and different ..

So I went to my LFS for blood worms and couldn't resist white clouds and golden white clouds 5 of each, should have taken 20 of each...they look a little lost in there...definitely need to make a plan to get into town for some more.... this is the first time I've seen the golden ones, quite chuffed

Nice to eventually have some fish in this tank, feels like it's been empty forever

You meant 9 into 300? But my fish factory has gone on strike apparently

I won’t be surprised if they spawn & successfully breed in there while no other fish in, especially with some frozen food to condition them. In my pond the adults didn’t seem to predate on the fry much but juveniles did. Some floating plants would help, as the fry like to hang around the surface for a week or so.

As far as I understand the gold is merely a colour variant and they’ll breed with the normal ones (much like zebra and leopard danios). They pop up now and again in CT yes.

You mentioned mozzie larvae? Sure that will go down a treat! Yep and frozen foods.

I’ve read and experienced that white clouds love to spawn in a new environment, so that bodes really well for you. They’re egg scatterers so anything that can hide the eggs a bit will help, you could temporarily add marbles / gravel chips to one spot? Java moss / other plants would work too but they actually come from streams with few plants.

And the fry will be most vulnerable during the first week, when they hide and hang out on the surface among / just above floating plants in my pond. Thereafter they should be safe from the adults, assuming you feed the adults well. But not once there are danios in the tank.

If you have a spare small tank you could always put some adults in there (more females than males), then pull them again after a few days? The females are prone to jumping when the males chase them so drop the water level or put on a lid.

What I would do it get a small plastic tub, put marbles in it, put moss on the marbles and leave it in the tank for 3 days. After this remove it and put it in another tank and you should be good with fry in a few days after that

Lets see what happens, not many plants in there yet but loads of hidey holes between all the pebbles and no other fish so maybe I'm lucky:thumbup:

Your biggest issue will be providing a place for them to spawn. Usually they prefer a fine leafed plant. Not saying it cant happen on its own, just that egg scatterers usually scatter into something. My cpds wont spawn while with the group as I dont provide them with anything to spawn into.

Oh OK, need to get some moss going then, don't have any.... LFS said he is getting plant shipment today, maybe some floating plant also, the current will probly make it gather at one end but that should work

Ok so this inspired us to do a little experiment in the 45L holding tank in the study that will become a bare bottom QT. The tank is a right mess at the moment, apologies.

The 3,5 year old graciously and excitedly offered his marbles once I explained the plan. He paraphrased it as “we’re going to trick them a little to lay eggs and then we’ll have more baby fish”. Pretty spot on

So after 3 days we could move the container to the 44L that currently only has shrimp and snails in.

It might not work cause @TheGrissom previously said it has to be a Spar margerine container

Think they’re already showing interest! But I don’t have unrestricted access to the tank during working hours as the hubby is in lockdown there :)
