    Hi guys,

So I have a siamese fighter, and suddenly yesterday he became bloated, had a white thing hanging from his anus and was hiding away behind the heater. So last night I chopped up some garlic and left it next to him to eat, not sure if he did eat it or not though, but this morning he still had some stuff hanging from him, but there was more. So I went to the lfs today and the guy thought he's just constipated, I bought some nemarid in case anyways.. He also said to help I should try rub his belly, but I can't actually grab him to do so, so I assume he is actually feeling a bit better as he's moving more.. Also while I tried to get a hold of him the stuff came off him.. I'll post a Pic of what it looks like if anyone could tell me?

The second picture was him this morning when I put the lights on, you can see the thing hanging from him.

    Oh also parameters:
    This is a 30l tabk,
I have 2 filters running, one is a little canister filter, the other is one of those clear plastic ones you connect to an air pump, filled with filter floss and activated carbon.
I can't say exactly the parameters as I use those sticks to measure it and I've found out they're not so great, so I'm saving up for the other test kits.
The temperature is at 26 degrees
Other fish are 4 baby cories, and 2 otos
I haven't added anything new in the last month or so except recently I got some seachem flourish, and in such a small tank I add only a few drops and once a week, but I haven't done that in 2 weeks.
Water changes are done once a week, usually Mondays but I was too scared to do anything yesterday so I've left that..

He is sitting like this and it looks like his scales are sticking up..
    Is this not dropsy?

I think this could be dropsy, do his scales look swollen like a pine cone?

Assuming your water conditions are good try epsom salt bath and kanaplex from Seachem.

Good luck. Just know if it is dropsy and it has gone too far you might not be able to save it.

Yeah, I saw lots of sites warn that the chances of saving are slim. I'm seriously hoping I've caught it in time, as he only started looking ill yesterday evening.

So with regards to the tank, how should I go about cleaning it? I have other fish in it still, and they seem healthy for now.. Is dropsy contagious?

Sorry, Dropsy is a symptom of an illness, its cause may or may not be contagious. I would use some treatment to make sure there are no funnies in the tank.
My Female Betta died of dropsy a while back... No other Bettas got sick in that tank although I quarantined fairly quickly.
My male Betta (mentioned above) who didn't make it also had tank mates which were not affected.

@Saibot so should I use the kaneplex and do a dose in the tank he was in just to be safe?

@T. Guppy sorry about the loss of yout betta. Unfortunately this is one of the downsides of the hobby.

I use aquarium salt to kill nasties that may be in the tank. But only if you dont have plants. Salt will kill the plants.

Salt is cheap and readily available.

Hi, that is what I would do. Just to be safe. Sorry for the late reply. Family emergencies are a constant hassle at the moment.
