Hey guys, I got bichir worms on my 2 polypterus senegalus. Verified by many people. Would just like to know what meds are available here in SA

    Params are:
    Nitrite & ammonia: 0
    Nitrate: <20
    Ph: 7.4
    Temp: 27 Celsius

They have the anchor worms plus pale blotches on the body. What sort of external parasite meds do we have? I have kanaplex but it's more for internal issues?

I would use kusuri wormer plus or flukesolve if you can get hold of it.

I've looked through all the threads elsewhere and such - http://www.myaquariumclub.com/ancho...ing-affects-hello.-id-like-to...-1938954.html

I think you may have to consult a vet to get rid of this parasite - when I had a planaria out break, I had to order some stuff that usually used for ostriches and chickens - you really can't get it anywhere except the vets or vets supplier stores.

    Oh boy, look what I found - http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/41355593/KOI_MEDICINE_BY_NISHIKI_KOI_FARM_DIMILIN_25WP.html - R190. Eh

I paid like R150 for worm medication - some ingredient that was in it that I needed for my tank.

    That's all I can find.

Never used Paraguard. But Tetra is a well known manufacturer. Compare the active ingredient to the products I have used

Personally wouldn't do a salt dip.

Do not use medicines not designed for fish.
    Really bad idea.
I did once and wiped out my tank - lesson learned.

I see they also use PP to treat it.

@Reedfish I think rainstorm is talking about fenbendazole. I aslo had to get it from the vet for a planaria problem, it worked like a bomb.

That's why I suggested the vet's advice - I don't have livestock so I can get away with it. The only problem with this medication is that it will make the water cloudy and some will settle on the plants - looks rather unsightly and I had to do a 100% water change after 4 days to kill the planaria.

YES!!!! Thank you, I clean forgot the name of the active ingredient. That's for planaria but I would not suggest it unless you want to clean the tank out of all the white stuff. I used a whole bottle through the 4 days to kill off everything - my plants were blanketed with the white stuff :O

Fenbendazole as the active ingredient for fish medication is fine.

Any medicine designed for ostriches and chickens - taking a chance.

Yes @Rainstorm it defiled the tank badly, but it killed them quick.

@Reedfish thats true but I couldn't find anything else at the time. The only active ingredient was fenbendazole. The one I got is meant for puppies, kittens and baby birds. But wouldn't recommend it, that's a chance you take on your own terms.

Fenbendazole anywhere that sells dewormers for livestock and some chemists under the name Panacure bs.nYou do not need a prescription.

prazinquatel (Prazipro) you will only get with a script from a Vet or Doctor and sells under the name Biltricide
Biltricide tablets have to be diluted in a little bit of alcohol (vodka is perfect) then diluted in water and then you can throw in the tank
If your chemist can get you Prazinquatel in powder form, you dissolve in water.

Levamisole is also freely available and also works well through feeding

Make sure they are in fact anchor worms, which are actually not worms but copepods. Salt and pp dips are often used. If you know koi keepers/ breeders see what they use for treatment, koi often get them in ponds. Speak to a vet.
How did the sens get anchor worms?

It's bichir worms carried in by my wild caught Senegal. The importer recommends dripping a full salt mix over the raw areas

Clearly he doesn't know too much about qt.

Catching it on multiple occasions is just going to stress it.
Not sure if that's the best course of action

    Treat the worms as above.
Keep your water pristine and the wounds should heal by themselves.
Maybe have an anti-fungal/bacterial on hand just in case something developes.
