@Whoknows .... children around should not be a problem at all with the rays

I have a number of children around, ranging from 5 months old to toddlers, a 13 year old and teenagers they all adore the fish and the rays come straight to the front of the glass for attention
The two babies and toddlers sit for ages in front of the tanks just staring at the fish and the older ones know very well the rays are venomous
Its up to parents to teach the children to not touch and respect
You can safely feed them by hand if they come to the surface and are used to taking food off your hand.
There could be a chance of a child being stung if they fiddle irresponsibly at the bottom of the tank but I dont think anyone allows children to work at the bottom of a 2m tank..

We have also got 3 Asian and an Albino Silver Arowana who are famous for jumping out the tank, that is a bigger worry for us than the rays so everyone knows better than to touch the lids on the tanks without me or Cesar being there

    Amazing just amazing

You should start a 24 hour live stream on YouTube for the rest of us to stare for hours.

Hand feeding sounds like an experience

2 meter deep/tall tank that sounds like a maintenance nightmare for adults never mind children

Got to have strong and heavy lids for those guys/girls.

On another note you have an amazing fish collection

    Hahha...

No.. no.. not 2m deep... even I wouldn't manage that!!
    tanks are 85cm deep
I actually meant "big tanks" which children couldn't possibly work at the bottom of

2 meters deep would be amazing though fill it with 20 little rays (I wouldn't know if that would work though)

How thick is the glass on an 85cm tall tank??

    @wh
2 meter tank would be awesome till you have to move the glass. recon chiropractors sponsorship would be needed for entire team.

True I didn't think of that and you'd need about 10-15 people to move It

Also I don't know if it would fit through the door either

12mm but eurobracing all round top, bottom and vertical
My bracing is 24mm thick though as its a double layer of 12mm glass
I dont think they usually do a double layer on bracing... Im just paranoid

A 2m deep tank could be awesome but not necessary at all for the rays. 85 is ample and believe me already not easy to work at the bottom especially when you have 1/1.2m width
The footprint/width is more important than the height even though they are very active and up and down the glass all the time

Sounds like you built the tank to be bomb proof

You need to have all round access for that I would think it would make it easier.
If you had space and all around access why not make it 2 meters wide??

So when you sell your house the tank goes with seems much easier to just build a new one :thumbup:

    Saves the chiropractor bills too

As a matter of interest and an update I have been meaning to do, I am adding @Ravs pictures to this thread as, those are two of the pups from this litter

If you look on page 3 of this thread, you will see them as tiny babies when they were born
I will add pictures of the others later

This is to show those that have taken an interest, the phenomenal morphing of the colours and patterns on ray pups from birth to adulthood and the development of a litter

    Thanks @Chandz

The above picture is actually in @Ravs tank
The little rays in the tank are 2 of the babies in this litter just to keep a record of how the whole litter develops
