I tank water PH =7.0. The tap water I normally use is 8.0.

There is a lot of bubbles on the surface. Gekkie just a sudden convulsions. He's got a big scar on his head now because of it. My oscars is floating mostly at the top and the one is laying sideways on the gravel. I am busy with a water change and to remove the gravel at the spot where the ammonia gas was.

I've also noticed my oscars and pleco's stay close to the oxygen rope on the gravel. The pleco's lay with their mouths directly on the rope.

@DoubleDutch he is not doing well. The little giant you gave him his name. I'm stressing a lot. All started because of a canister that packed up.

An amonia spike could cause and drop in ph aswell as lower oxygen levels explaining the film over his eyes.

Sorry its not sounding good @Stalker but our prayers are with your babies and hope things improve

Did you manage to get some antibiotics?

@Barry Roux, That is what I also think
Sudden ammonia spike which in turn caused a temporary Ph crash which is now showing in the cloudy eyes

An antibiotic injection might have helped and water changes
Maybe a little bit of salt can help them with their breathing...

    Really hope they get better

@MariaS I've done another 50% WC now. From Sunday to now there was ammonia gas build up in the gravel. I've removed about 60% of the gravel.

The good thing is when he noticed me about 21:15 he waved his pectoral fins and wanted attention. It looks like he is slowly going to get better with the WC.

Thats awesome.... at least he is fighting which helps a lot
    Just keep it up !!!

I know you under lot of stress right now but remember the other filter /sump might benefit from a rinse as it probably worked overtime when the canister packed up and might not be too healthy right now

As already stated, keep up with the water changes and keep vacuming the substrate to make sure you get the nasties out.

    Switch to prime for now:
Safe is the dry version of Prime, except, that it does not detoxify heavy metals, nor will it stimulate the natural slime coat of the fish. Unfortunately, due to its dry state, those benefits can not be achieved.

I would add Stability daily after each water change to boost your bio filter as with Prime the ammonia is changed to a ammoniacal substance that is nontoxic to the fish but is still biologically available to the bacteria to consume. Prime (or Safe) only holds it as a ammoniacal substance for 24 hours after that it is free to turn to ammonia or ammonium. Ammonium is also non toxic to the fish. How much toxic ammonia you have depends on your pH

Stop the paraguard and use stress guard. Do not dose at same time as prime as both are reducing agents.

    Incease your oxygenation as well.

    Good luck!

He start getting better. He wanted attention and wanted to play, he just got extremely quickly tired. My lemon oscar fins is also start showing red vains. I've tested the water and the ammonia is 0. The oscars still show symptoms that the PH is still not correct. Gekkie also show symptoms for PH shock. My Lutino tiger oscar shows PH shock symptoms after every water change.

    Good to hear.

Do you not have a container where you can age the water and try and get it at the same ph as your tank before it goes in?
Maybe with some buffer (crushed coral sand for eg) that will prevent the ph crashes.

Or you also get artificial "salts" designed for keepers of Rift Cichlids.

I bought Gekkie in 2013 when he was still 4cm big. If I lost him it will be a lot of people at his funeral. Everybody just love him because of his happy attitude.
