I stopped using liquid carbon due to it's nature as a preservative and so on, but can definitely get away with less ferts.

Yeah my crypts are almost 30cm tall in the scape. Hygrophila pinnitafida is a weed that explores above the waterline.
I would rotate the adults in bare tanks since they lay all over..
