That sounds perfect when i had my lights attached to the underneath of the above tank i just made sure the wood underneath the tank was thick enough an used a peace of gutter to put the light in and direct the light downwards towards the tank.
I used black ns4 to paint my stands it goes on purple but dries matt black with a rubber feel and prevents rust.

My Stand is finished! The square tubing got droped of yesterday abd i cut up all the lenths after work. So this morning i started welding all together and its finished and sprayd black! now i'm just waiting for the wood for the tank's to stand on. Any ideas for wood and what a board will cost at say timber city or builders?

This reply could be controversial .. I have both. 1) no wood as base - if the welding is good and all is flush and the stand frame is the exact size as the tank then you can just put it on the stand. 2) Would base - I like supawood - easy to cut but it does hate water ...

price ... $ashbuild will allow you to download the specials price list form its site - but I do not think they cut would. - MDF 16 mm 2.7x1.8m +- R500

Shweet!!! The welding is flush and the frame is exact but I dont trus it! That bottom is a huge piece of un supported glass?! Wil it realy hold? But i think i will Rather put in a board and the bottom shelf will house a 3ft so there i will need wood... and my canister filter is going next to the bottom tank. I'm going to check on some prices now thanx!

looks good. If you are concerned about the bottom of the tank support why not weld a bar across the middle and then place the wood over it?

I would definetly weld a cross bar it will give more support to your tank.

Ok so I listend to the advice thate most of you gave me and moved my tank to the stand that I built.

This gave me a nice chance do do a rescape as i had to take EVERY thing out to move it.

My alternanthera in pic one is lots of new leaves, but not as much as the other plants as these okes want some more light, Some of the other plants are going like they are on steroids! The leaves are stil a tiny bit "droopy" after the move but they are picking up again... I wil post some more pics of the plants about every week just to share the growth with this very low tech system.

The tank is not full yet, i'm filling it to the top with water that i aerate and de chlor for 24hours.

    The inmates:
    4x jumbo neons
    6x black neons
    6x black widdows
    3xharlequins(could not find more yet)
    8x head&tail lights
1xA. Agizzissi double red female(awaiting another pair)
1x German blue ram female(Trying to get hold of a male)

    Tank:
240l with 2x Sylvania growlux lamps and another boyu light, 90w all and all.
External canister filter at 400l per hour(doing an awsome job)
Using the profs ferts and the PPF method caped with silica sand.
