1.8m Tank & Stand

As the title suggests, im looking for a 1.8m tank & stand. Dont want to go the Gumtree route unless I have to.

How much do you want to spend? Maybe build your own tank as a project?

 

Im going to make some calls to get qoutes, but I have a rough idea. I am capable of building my own tank, but I just dont have the time.

I also saw an ad on Gumtree, but the tank comes with all the fish and I dont have the space for an extra tank. Im planning on transferring my current livestock into the 1.8m

 

@Tiger barb, Can maybe go for the option of taking the fish in it and trade it at a LFS for some other live stock or food or something if they are willing to do it.

 

@wsteene I thought of that, I just think the logistics is going to be a nightmare. thats why im want to get an empty tank.

 

I got a quote from my LPS, for a 1.8m x 0.6 x 0.6 it will cost R1800 which includes corner overflow & drilled hole for sump and 10mm glass all round. I dont think its too bad.

 

Sounds like a decent price to me

 

@Tiger barb i think its a reasonable price. also ask @spider, he builds very solid and decent tanks. and he has experience building all sizes, including 2m tanks.

 

@Tiger barb, That is a decent price indeed. Some glass shops charge that just for the glass. Just make sure about the bottom glass aswell. These are 6foot tanks at around 650l. So it weighs around 700kg full. Most of the time the bottom glass will be thicker. But I'll say go for it. The good thing is you'll have new glass. No scratches etc.

 

@SloMo.00. Im thinking the same thing. Im going to see a tank I saw on Gumtree, but im very fussy when it comes to water marks, scratches, ect. If I dont like what I see tonight then I will be giving the go ahead for the tank to be made by my LPS. I will ask that the bottom be 12mm for extra strength.

 

Went to see a tank advertised on Gumtree. Got to the guys house and his wasnt there after I arranged with him to come at 6pm. Im taking this as a sign and going to have my tank made by my LPS.
