    Other thread going off topic.
I prob contributed to that

    The scientists argument:
Is that these new variants are far more spreadable. Even if they are milder, there will still be some people needing hospital treatment (non vaxxed, etc). So if the numbers are high, even if the percentage is smaller. There will still be a lot of people needing hospital treatment, and our health system may not be able to cope with that

Yep a big piece cake is mine. Apologies !

Janssen and Astra Zenica don't seem to be effective anymore. I think they've vaccinated with Astra Punica instead hahaha.

We bought millions of Astra Zenica and destroyed half of it (instead of sending it to third world countries). [IMG]

We were given the Chinese one.. sinopharm. Then they told us that we had a deadline by August to get a booster of Pfizer, we ended up doing a 4th dose of Pfizer one time

I don't think this is entirely true.
They may be less effective at completely shutting out the new form of covid. But if someone gets it with these vaccines, they will still be much less likely to need hospital care.

Insane amount of new cases yesterday.
Our prime minister keeps saying there won't be another lockdown. Which I sort of believe.....as long as long as this doesn't lead to a huge increase in hospital admissions.
And also, with so many people off sick, many businesses may struggle due to staff shortages.

@DoubleDutch I hope by June things go back to normal. I wanted to visit for the Defqon1 music festival. I've always wanted to go but finances didn't permit. Was gonna go in 2020 but then covid. Looking like it may still not be possible in 2022.

No harcher lock down measures for us. President has Covid, at the moment, and can't adress his fellow South Africans. Everything going normal, waiting to see what is happening with hospitals and infection rate.

Just took time to read through this thread. Yes I had nothing else to do.

Ever since we arrived in the claws of covid, world wide, so much have changed. And so much is still waiting to change.

Out of my own personal experiance I know that I stared, with big eyes, every day at the growing totals. Fearing the worst.

In due time things settled down a bit. We returned to a semi normal life while supporting the black market. 2nd wave came and was replaced by the 3rd. New variants showed their faces. The 4th wave is here. Vacines have been developed, booster shots added. We are standing at a point in our lives that no living person has gone through before, or needs to go through again.

Now I know there are many conspiracy theories concerning covid as well as the vacsine's. Personally I don't feel the need to have myself vacsinated. No I'm not being selfish about this at all and I respect your opinion about this. My biggest issue with it is that what is the long term side effects. Yes it was developed through trusted companies using trusted methods. But when will the mutation of the virus and the adapting of the vacsine end? Are we sitting with a smart virus that will stay one step ahead of us? Why do people that were vacsinated still get covid?
Ja I know that's a lot of questions but I'm sitting alone with only Hoender, my Green Cheek Conure, Lilli passed away earlier this year, and he can't supply all the answers. Please share your knowledge, or opinion, about this. I'm not looking at starting a fight, or calling people names. We have come this far, together, throigh our changing world. Can we talk about this? Without fighting but respecting every opinions. Please

The vaccine decreases viral load, symptoms, etc. Means if you get it you won't feel as bad (usually), can't spread it as readily, and have a much lower chance of ending up in the ICU. Long term side effects of the vaccine may not be poorly understood yet - but covid has a decent chance of causing long term, debilitating issues with your respiratory and cardiovascular systems. As things stand we are more likely to catch covid than ever with the spread of this variant.

Think of it like wearing a seatbelt, hopefully you won't need it, and it doesn't always save you, but it damn well improves your chance of survival and prevents you from hurting other people in the car :)

I am with Hendre on this. Covid can cause long term organ damage.
If the vaccine can reduce the chances of a high virus load, and therefore less chance of severe illness, then I am all for it.

What I am finding frustrating, Is that despite we (the UK) and the rest of Europe being well into the booster program, some countries are back in lockdown and the UK seems to be heading back there too.
Well….what is the end game then ? The whole of the past 20 odd months was wait for the vaccines, wait for the population to be done. Lockdowns necessary to protect the vulnerable and the health service until there was sufficient population immunity. I didn’t like it, but saw that it was necessary. But now, that doesn’t seem good enough.

This disease is never going to go away. Never.
Are we going to lurch from 1 lockdown to the next?
Are we going to need a booster every 3 to 4 months? I am pro vaccine. And was happy to have it. To protect myself and the community around me. But I am done now. Have had 3 vaccinations in 9 months. Am happy to maybe have an annual booster. But that’s it. Not keen to keep on having them on such a regular basis…..and still have my life and basic freedoms curtailed. It’s very frustrating.

    Exactly as @Hendre has said.

I have no idea why but south Africans believe the vaccine is meant to give you immunity from getting covid, it just makes its affect less intense. I have not had the virus myself thankfully but I have friends and family who have, both vaccinated and non vaccinated and most critical of the lot were unvaccinated.

With regards to the effect of the virus (yes I know it's different per case) a friend of ours, fully vaccinated and usually a healthy person. She was sick for about 6 weeks after she had tested negative for the first time after being positive. She usually does a 5km walk a day in our neighborhood and she was unable to for about 8weeks after she was sick simply because her strength was not the same (edit: she was fully vaccinated when she contracted the virus). So the viruses long term effects can certainly be far greater than we know. I also know of people who had tested positive and been sick several times with covid, both vaccinated and non vaccinated and one person had it before the vaccine and the second time around was after the vaccine and it was less intense. This could have been because of the vaccine or because her body had built up the necessary cells to fight it better. The third and second were identical though so that points to the vaccine doing its job in my opinion.

I have been vaccinated for almost a year from my first dose and I have to admit that I've had no side effects present to date. My first 2 doses were the Chinese sinopharm, and I had taken a third and fourth dose of Pfizer in August and September and those too showed no side effects or any reactions to them. Between my first and second doses I did suffer mild headaches which ended exactly when I took my second dose. The third dose was perfectly fine and the 4th dose had me nauseous for like 10min, but it was so mild that from there I drove 2 hours without any issue. I'm sharing my experience with the vaccine in the hope that it helps you get over the "fear" or reluctance you have with getting vaccinated as in my honest opinion I believe everyone should be vaccinated for their own benefit. Not trying to sell the vaccines to you or anything but my cousin who's a doctor in Tshwane and I have had a conversation about 2 months ago about this (most of my family are anti vaxxers) and she said from the time covid began, their hospital was inundated with patients, and once the vaccine roll outs began the numbers started to decrease but not by a large number. However, not a single patient that had been admitted to hospital for covid related issues were vaccinated. That in itself to me is proof that it does play a role in how badly you're affected with the virus
