I recently got a 40x40x40cm cube tank, 6mm glass. I had no plans for it and wasn't sure which style I wanted. I was considering a blackwater biotope with pencilfish and apistos, and also a low maintenance planted tank with fancy guppies.

I finally decided to make a very natural paludarium with locally collected hardscape and plants, and organisms.

I have started to play with wood placements, but I still need to get rocks and a background. I won't reveal the hardscape until I have finally decided on it.

It will be unheated, and I will use a 20W cfl for now, until I can get a nice LED unit. I will incorporate a waterfall/stream as well as a misting system, maybe a fog machine.

Here's a teaser pic of the tank.

Looking forward to seeing your design. I found that my 3ft was quite a challenge to scape in a way that looks natural.

Very sorry to hear that but it is quite a challenge to get a natural Paludarium running properly :)

I probably conveyed it wrong. I didn't make it a paludarium but rather a blackwater biotope tank but it looks awful and has a fatty/oily layer on the water. I am considering throwing out everything and only put in a sand bottom and some caves 'n things and try to breed apisto or krib.
