    Hi All

Just came back from holiday to find my middle portion on my 1.2 full of algae, on the plants and on the gravel.

How does a person get rid of it?

    Regards
    Peter

Gravel vac the gravel. Rub plants with your fingers gently to remove algae. What you should find is the cause of this. What kelvin is your light and how many hours a day do you leave it on for? Do you use any ph adjusting additive in the tank?

    Thanks Marco

No, no problem it is just that we left a curtain open so natural sun light came through to the middle portion.

    Regards
    Peter

I had the problem with algae on my substrate the whole time... I then determined that my leopard pleco is lazy... so i went a bought an albino algae eater....never had that problem again...

But this is just my experience...

My Oscar tank gets about 2 hours of natural light in the mornings and I get some algae built up but I found a rather simple solution too this. I took a wooden Kebab stick and I make lines in the gravel like a farmer would when he prepares the ground for planting crops. This way the gravel gets flipped so the algae doe not get a chance to grow properly, then my little Chinese algae eater comes in and clean up. I have actually noticed how he take a piece of gravel and rotates it in mouth cleaning it and then spitting it out, he does that across the whole bottom of my tank. And unlike the Pleco's who sit and do nothing he is always active and about cleaning everything he come across.

Yeah and it actually looks like they are doing something, hell I think the mystery snails in my tank are doing more than my pleco did in the community tank. Maybe it is because I dont really feed him since he has a 100 liter tank all by himself that he gets to clean each day.
