I might just take you up on that offer but in the spirit of cost cutting saving petrol is high on my agenda so lemme try out my lizid trapping this weekend,i have an idea in mind.lol now i know things are bad,my first idea is to tie a cricket to a raised container which when the lizid approaches and enters the kill zone i will pull the stick and trap him sorta how i used to trap birds as a child.

i already spent about R700 on fish end of last mont.. due to nitrate spike alot died lost about 200-300.. very very expensive indeed..

tetras and corrys.. even though small are pricy little buggers.. ive fixed the problem though.. things are stable again..

 

So then do you think smaller fish are actually more costly in the end?maybe thats another thread altogether.

 

i think that most of them are not as tollerable to fluctuating conditions (such as a new tank) so deaths are more common than one large fish.. also, you dont just buy 1 or 2 neons. usually you'd buy 5-10 + and if you get a bad batch or if the LFS dont store them properly, they could all die..

also, with smaller fish, disease etc is harder to detect and cure..

so.. to answer your Q, i DEFN think smaller fish are more expensive to bigger fish (relatively)

 

my wife has put a limit to how muxh i can spend on my tanks in a month and god help me if i go over it :cry:

I agree with shihr, I love tetras they are awsome in a big school. But yes small fish are more expensive because of the rate they die in the first week or so after purchasing....

 

Let's put this all into perspective tho... show me one hobby where the hobbyist doesn't spend lot's of money?

 

True that,but i cant think of another hobby(is our fishkeeping a hobby?)where even the very air breathed costs money.dont get me wrong i dont regret spending all the money i do(i dont think any of us do) on my fish.

Due to a amonia spike late last year I lost a lot of fish.

I got a new powerhead, sponge filter, two electronic ballasts, two 30watt light tubes, two Zebra convicts, a Redheaded cichlid, a Green Terror, Tiger Oscar, air pump, gravel vac, my monthly Hikari foods, 6 packets of frozen blood worms and this weekend I'm going to get new plants for the tank. I don't want to calculate the total because I'll get a stroke if I have to see it. I was supposed to fit new tyres on my car. Still not done though. I still need two red spotted Deacons and a Chocolate Cichlid.

All worth it though. I'm grimacing when I pay, but smile when I stare at them when I get home.

guys besides equipment...every month or so wild caught malawi's come in and they cost about R160 to R650 each

every month i buy some(addicted)....so thats about 5 fish a month at about R1000...

last month i bought two wild Kigmo fronts...R650 each...thats the story every month...

this month i bought alot of juvenile F1s...R650 and in two weeks more fish land

and guys if you must hear what @sarf @duran and @Seanputs in you'll feel ill...
