The little guy seems to have damaged his dorsal fin. I am right in saying that it will grow back?

Great! Was getting very concerned about it.

I might keep this little guy as well. Which would make 2 (probably very pretty) fry that I can shift into the parrot tank to do algae cleanup duty.

Agreed. So long as the fin has not been nipped right down to the body it will grow back.

They are currently in a 180L with their parents. It's the safest place I have to grow them up.

The other fry were bullying these two quite badly.

Ahhh okay. Why I asked : nitrite (bad waterconditions) can cause this damage as well. Happy that isn't the case.

Nitrates were tested recently. With no water change for 2 weeks the levels were 35-40ppm. (due to horrible tap water filled with lime, which has subsequently been fixed). The water change is usually a 35-40% weekly. It is also a heavily planted tank. The water from my tap is quite soft, from memory the test readings were 150ish. It also stays that way in the tank.

They are kept in this tank,

The marvel that is the internet!

To be honest, without AC or Peter from Fish for Africa my aquariums would be a mess. I only found TASA recently. The power of being able to access such information quickly is so underestimated

@Rich.P, one of the better brand of heaters that I've come across in my time of fish keeping is definitely Eheim, but another brand that isn't too heavy on the pocket is Resun, I have quite a few of them running in my tanks & I've not really had any hassles with them. The only problem is that I can't remember if Peter keeps them in stock. I know that PM definitely stocks them... HTH

I have since acquired an Eheim 200W for the main tank. I will gradually phase out the Via Aqua heaters. Although I was lucky to find one that was old stock at Pet Masters. The new price was R370 but I found this heater for R300.

    Definitely worth the money!!!

    A little update:

They just spawned a huge batch in the main tank. I have no idea how well this will work in the community tank. However, the other tank is still growing up the last batch.

Mine have been spawning every 3 weeks if the eggs are removed. How long will they take to spawn if I let them raise this batch?

Don't think so. If they're not ready they won't spawn. You could try to give dad some rest by removing the female for some time. But it's a fertile tank I think hahaha
