Apistogramma

From the pics that I have posted you can see the A. macmasteri do not have any problem going toe to toe with the cories to get in on the action. That is the only time they will keep still for long enough so that I can get some pics. The larger A. Viejitas have grown nicely, there diet includes mysis, bloodworm, live brine shrimp and dried food.

 

Just not what I expected I guess. Hopefully they make it ...

 

Need to learn how to hatch brine shrimp ...
What sort of growth rate should I be aiming for ?

I am feeding some blood worm, frozen and freeze dried. Some Tetra flakes and bits. I need to get something with a high fat content I guess.

 

Lost the male that was left in the tank, seems that the second batch was not as good as the first.

 

Any other member having the same problem with the A. viejitas?

 

I got mine from the first batch and they're still 100%. I know Kim had some deaths, but not too sure what the problem was...

 

My pair from the first batch is 100%. It is the pair from the second batch that died

 

1) A. agassizi at her coconut. Think she might have eggs she is looking after
2) A. viejita - can you sex these fish?
3) A. viejita male ??
4) A. viejita - can you sex these fish
5)

 

6)A. viejita - male of female
7)

 

I lost both my male Viejitas, nothing obvious, they both ate extremely well and showed no outward sign of parasites or injury, but both females are still going strong.

@Kuhli Loach, I think you are mistaken about the above being Viejitas, aren't these the Macmasteris?

Cool... I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is having problems sexing my fish, but I think that they might still be to small. I have my 4 seperated over 2 x 1.5ft mostly bare tanks at this stage and I've noticed that what looks like the male keeps chasing the smaller ones, which I presume to be the females, but I'm still not certain on that.

@Kuhli Loach, do you have your 4 all in one tank together? How do they react with one another? Which do you have the original Macmasteri's or do you have the Blue Faced Macmasteri's?

Your Agassizii's what are they? Double Red? Gold?

Great pics they are all looking very healthy.

 

I love the interaction between apisto's. I have 4 borelli and 2 agassizii's sharing a tank, and they are shuffling quite a bit, but nothing that I am concerned about. Plan to setup a few tanks over the weekend so I can seperate them.

 

2 pairs of A baenschi. The one pair was bullying the other 2. But quite badly, in a 1000mm x 500mm x 600mm tank. Fully planted, with caves... So they get quite aggressive. At least I now know that I have 2 pairs.

 

So what do you think of these guys?





This is the dominant pair in the big tank. The other 2 are not getting along too well either... Pity. @Altum - Any chance you have a spare female?

ps that second pair why dont you seperate them and condition them separately using a divider in the tank so they can still see each other, once the females mature or ready for breeding im sure the response might be different.its worth a try i recon.anyway just a thought i read about this method somwhere on another forum

 

Bloody good idea!! It's a standard 3 ft tank... I just need to figure a way to partition it without loosing too much flow for the plants.

maybe rig something up with some perspex clear sheet and use a drill to somehow neatly drill a lot of small holes along the 2 sides and leave the cetntre solid as your flow probably moves in a circular.that is what i was thinking.
