    Update time:

We had some warm weather about a week back and I saw the sawbwas doing their thing - found quite a few eggs on floating plants in their tank (about a dozen I would guess) so I moved them plants into a grow out tank. Currently there are about 5 or 6 fry free swimming with hopefully a few more coming in the next few days.

With the cpds I spawned them last week as well. No fry to report yet. I have 20 that are about 4 months old that I am selling and another dozen or so that I am planning on keeping.

With the emeralds I have moved 6 into a tank with moss about 3 weeks ago. Havent seen any fry yet. Will give it another 2 or so weeks and then I will try and split them so that only a pair is in a tank. Once I sell my cpds I will then have 2 tanks free on the same water system so I can give it a go with 2 pairs, not sure what I will do with the 3rd pair.I am sure I can move fish around, maybe combine some to wangle an extra free tank along the lines somewhere

On Saturday I moved 4 trios of cpds into breeding tanks. I saw some spawning behavior yesterday so lets hope for the best. Hoping for somewhere between 50 and 100 fry. Will move all the adult fish into one tank tomorrow evening - 3 mornings for spawning is usually plenty of time.

Got some more sawbwa eggs so now I have 2 tanks with sawbwa fry. The eggs from August have only produced 3 fry currently - I think 1 or 2 didnt make it out of the first month. The 3 of them should be fine now.

The emeralds have not produced any fry as yet. Depending how the cpd fry go I will probably try and pair them off over 2 or 3 tanks once the cpd fry (hopefully) are big enough to move into 1 tank.

So on Tuesday evening I moved the cpds back into one tank. Waiting for fry now. Probably should see them in about a week hopefully.

The sawbwa eggs have hatched. I counted 6 new fry earlier today so there are 9 in total now.

I found an emerald fry in their tank about 15 minutes ago. I really should move the adults out but I have nowhere to move them to. The fry should be okay as its pretty big already - I estimate about 3 weeks old. Last time I bred emeralds I waiting until I found fry and then moved the adults out - I got about 50 fry from 2 pairs across 2 breeding tanks

Very nice thread! Hopefully you get many more. By the way, you must have been breeding through several generations of cpds by now? Are you looking for specific traits when selecting pairs? I dont know much about cpds but they are stunning.

Can you try to post some pics of your fry? I know this is a mission.

And thanks for all the help!

Im up to 15 now in one tank, other 3 tanks have nothing so far. If there are no fry in another week I will put new adults in them and try again

Not really. I look for a nice healthy looking male and a fat female.

If I find one of the glass I will take a pic, but the free swimming ones are too small for the camera to focus on - well at least my camera

So moved 3 more trios of cpds into breeders on Friday night and moved them out tonight. Holding thumbs for a lot of fry in about a week. I counted 16 fry that are now 2 weeks old and going well.

Not had that much success of late with the breeding.

I have a few sawbwa fry - about a dozen from 4 spawns. And another 6 or so eggs that I moved yesterday. Its just how it is with Sawbwas - not many fry produced at a time.

The Emeralds are in 3 tanks and I have seen a fry in 2 of them. I am planning on moving the emeralds into my outside 1000 L bin for the summer as soon as the weather heats up. Been fairly cold in PE so far. The odd day is mid 20s but mostly about 20 degrees which is warm enough. Will move them either this weekend of possibly the 16th.

The cpds have been a disappointment so far this spring. I have only had 1 spawn of about 15 fish. This is from about 10 to 15 attempts. Not sure why nothing is happening. Usually I get 2 spawns for every 3 attempts. But the 15 are growing well. Will keep trying

So been at the breeding game again (or rather still)

Sawbwas - I have quite a few now, I guess about 25. And about a third of those are female which are only just getting to their breeding stage. I will be setting up at least 2 breeding tanks shortly with 2 males and 4 females in each. Been getting quite a few eggs recently so now I have 3 tanks with fry in them - not sure how many fry but I guess about a dozen all together. As I get my breeders setup I should start to see an increase in fry numbers as I will have many more females producing eggs

Emeralds - I have an unheated tank with emerald fry in it. I counted 8 fry but I think there are many more. The water is green and the fish are shy so they tend to hide. I have also moved 6 adults into an outside water tank on 16 Dec. Havent seen a trace of them but the water is green. I can only see about 10 cm into the water. Will give it until mid March before I empty the tank and see what I find

Celestials - no luck here although my focus has shifted to the sawbwas mostly. I will try again this weekend with a pair and see how it goes.

Chilis - I now have chili rasbora. Love them. So active and unafraid. They have been in quarantine for a week now so 5 more weeks to go before I try anything with them.

Did some fish moving this morning. Emptied my unheated emerald fry tank. Got 19 fry. Moved them into my dirted tank with the sawbwas and refilled the tank. There are now 21 emeralds in there.

Moved the chilis from their current tank into the unheated tank. Will see if any fry appear in their old tank in the next week. Unfortunately 1 found a dead one 2 days ago so there are only 9 now.

Also got a quote for a new 4ft tank with a 3ft sump. Its happening, just need to empty the 3 tanks that are in the space at the moment. These will be used for unheated tank breeding next summer.

Moved 13 cpds into my 3ft cpd tank. I now only have about 5 or 6 sawbwa fry in my breeding setups. Will try do one last attempt at spawning at the end of Feb, then I think I am done until next spring. The sawbwas are in their permanent breeding setup so if they lay eggs I will raise the fry but I wont actively try to spawn any cpds, emeralds or chilis after the end of Feb. Dont want to be raising fry through winter as the cost of heating my breeders will be a killer. I really need to give the breeding setup a good cleaning as well so I will probably end up emptying it, cleaning and refilling without adding a heater until spring time
