I am up to about a dozen fry now spread over 3 tanks, not great spawns by any means. I think I will move them into an empty tank over the weekend and then replace the water in the breeders and see what happens

Might not be great spawns but, the achievement is what matters
Keeping fingers crossed for the next lot and all the bet with these

I gave up on the rainwater and made a mixture of 1:2 RO to tap water. I let it all mix up in the setup for a few days and then added 8 pairs of fish across 4 tanks - 2 pairs per tank. Sunday last week I moved the containers into one tank and replace them in the adults tank with new containers. There are 4 containers in the below pic

    Fry tank.jpg

This morning I found fry - a great number of fry. I counted 20 just in the front third of the tank, none free swimming yet. I will leave this setup as it is for another week and then remove the spawning containers. BY then all eggs that were going to hatch should have and all fry should be free swimming. Hoping for over 50 fry.

Many of these fry have now gone free swimming, although not all of them. There are a lot, I guess somewhere between 50 and 100. In one of my other breeding tanks I found another fry - this is from the same fish. Its the 2nd lot of spawning containers that I used. I dont expect anywhere near as many fry. Usually the day after I move the adults into the breeders I get a lot of eggs, then the numbers drop quite drastically for the next few spawns. It may be worth only spawning these fish every 2nd weekend and moving them back into the main tank after being in the spawning setup for three days each time. I should get significantly more fry than if I just leave them in the spawning setup for 2 weeks.

I am now being overrun with fry. Another tank has fry - counted 8 so far, 2 free swimming, six on the glass. I also found another 1 fry on the glass of another tank, meaning that of the 6 tanks in my breeding setup 4 have fry in them so far. Depending on how many fry end up in each tank I may end up consolidating them into a single tank just to make feeding easier. This is beside the tank with the massive number in - I may end up moving them about in order to reduce the numbers in the tank to ensure that all the fry get a chance to feed. Currently I am overfeeding them with vinegar eels just to make sure there are enough in the tank for them. So far they are all looking pretty good

Fry are still all doing well, growing nicely. I have been feeding vinegar eels twice a day, now I am mixing in banana worms with each feeding. Hopefully in a week or two I can switch over to only feeding banana worms, my vinegar eel cultures are running low. I have used up three cultures already, busy on the 4th.

Glad to say the majority of the fry are still going strong. Lost quite a few - for some reason they stop being able to stay level and then just waste away in their efforts to stay upright. Today I switched to feeding them first bites, will continue using this as well as banana worms for a few more weeks

Yesterday I move the last of the fry into my 3 ft tank after having sold the majority. In total I got 141 fry, not counting culls. Not too shabby. This week I will be cleaning the breeding setup, replacing the water and starting again but this time with my emerald rasbora.

Been a few years since I posted. I have had endless water challenges. My tap water pH skyrocketed to over 8. All fish stopped breeding. Then I started mixing rain and tap water, which didn't help. Tried 100 % rainwater which I remineralized, didn't help either. Every so often I would get lucky and get a few fry, but nowhere near what I should have been getting. So I took a leave of absence with regards to breeding for about a year before trying again in Spring 2024. During this time my endlers were still breeding like crazy, so my thoughts were that there must be something in the water effecting the fertilization or eggs of the egg scattering species. Tried a few things with various water mixes, borrowing water, adding different chemicals, nothing helped. After much frustration, I bought myself a 3-stage water filtration system in January. It has 2 sediment filters and a carbon filter, followed by a UV light. I filter 100 % rainwater through the filters, but not the UV light, and then remineralize with a shrimp salt and acid buffer to get a ph of about 6.5 - 7.0 and a tds of about 150 ppm. Within 2 weeks I have tanks filled with fry. They are a mixture of Vietnames cardinals and CPDs. Glad to be back in the breeding game now, fry doing well and should be ready to move into a 3ft grow out tank by the end of April.

Tried breeding Fireline danios and Chopra danios but no luck, will try again in September. The Fireline's are apparently not the easiest to breed but I think I just started too late in the Summer, needed to be breeding them Dec/Jan. The Chopras may be all the same sex, I only have 4. Will see if I can find more over winter. Then I have some rainbow shiners as well, they were looking good to breed in November/Dec but as I said above, I only sorted out my water late Jan. They had gone off breeding colours by then.

I accidently posted this on another thread, just doing it here so I can have it all in one place.

My fry are large enough to move now (at least 3 of the 5 tanks containing fry), so they will be going into my cory tank over the next few weeks. This tank is set to 24 degrees and only contains 10 panda corys and 6 adolfoi corys. Fry can grow out there for 2 more months before I move those I want to keep into my planted tank with the adults, the rest I will sell. This also allows me to shut down the breeding setup for winter. It's about 180L split over six tanks and a sump, so heating over winter is not great.
