My tank is losing 3L of water a day already. It's very annoying.

Just goes to show. I'm running 25 without a lid, plus an airstone 24/7 that splashes a lot - and the tank is situated between an open window and my front door which I always keep open for the cats. Sitting here I can see the tank steaming like a cup of coffee.

Took a pic of one of my breeders this morning. Probably about 30 to 50 fry in there. Once the fry are moved the whole system will get a clean out. It needs it, I only clean the tanks just before I start breeding and once I am done breeding. It will still have water in it over winter, just not running the pump and heaters. Gets a complete water change before I start up again

Just for interest, here is a photo of a newly hatched fry. The picture above is of the fry at 11 weeks old.

This weekend I moved 3 of the breeder tanks stock into my cory tank. In total 164 fish (80 galaxy rasbora, 84 Vietnamese cardinals). Only 4 culls among them (all cardinals). Planning on doing the last 2 breeders this afternoon (much smaller spawns, guess about 60 fish across both tanks). I am a little concerned that I will be overstocked as the fish grow, but I will choose 25 of each species for my planted 4ft as future breeding stock and hopefully be able to sell the rest. The cory tank has a very nice parva carpet, a sponge filter and hob filter, about 100l in total and I am planning on doing 5L WC daily until all the are grown and sold so hopefully no issues there.

Things have hit a pothole - all my cpd fry have white spot. And since I moved them to my cory tank, the corys are also at risk. Started treatment yesterday. API kill Ick dosed as per fry limit of 1 drop per 10L, supposed to redose on Friday if required. Increased the tank temperature to 26 ºC. Didnt want to go higher than that as the cpds may not respond too well.

Had a closer look at the fry again last night, seems like most of them are ick free. Still the odd one with ick but nothing too bad. Nothing on any of my corys, and nothing on the vietnamese cardinals. I am not sure if I lost any, the tank has a parva carpet and shrimp so i doubt I would find any dead ones. Just as an estimate it looks like they are still at their original numbers.

The fry are now 4 months old and have started to colour up, and the more developed fry can easily be identified as male or female. I even saw a pair spawning this weekend.

I have also now moved the younger fry out of my breeder setup and have shut that down for the winter. They are in a quarantine tank as I didn't want to mix them in with the older fry as they will probably be out competed for food. 25 fish in total, I had quite a high mortality rate in these. They come from imported fish which were quite small when I got them, so I didn't get quite as large spawn sizes and probably about half of what was hatched developed swim bladder issues and had to be culled unfortunately. Probably due to poor genetics/inbreeding.

My fry are now 5 months old. The Vietnamese cardinals are ready to be sold, some of the celestial pearl danios are, others haven't quite developed as I hoped they would. Maybe once I sell all the better-looking fry the others will have less competition and shape up a bit. I have been overfeeding with micro worms so there really shouldn't be any competition and any worms that get to the bottom of the tank are cory food so there is no risk with the overfeeding really.

Just an aside - yesterday i managed to obtain 10 Danio Kyathit. Looking forward to breeding these in the Spring.

I don't really, they give store credit, and I am not really interested in that. I sell to ECAAC members, one of who has an online store. So, she advertises them and ships them, I supply to her when I have fish available.

Very nice. Yeah store credit not always the best. Cold hard cash is much better

Most stores (in the UK anyway) are reluctant to give cash. They usual give you a credit, knowing it will keep you coming back

Update time: Currently I have 2 tanks full of cpd fry, estimate about 75 fry across the 2 tanks. Then last night I spotted a baby panda cory in my grow out tank, so they have been busy. I keep them there as they dont bother the smaller fish and eat all of the food that ends up on the substrate.

Then I managed to get hold of a few rainbow shiners (6 in total), still very young (I estimate younger than 6 months), separated the 4 males from the 2 females as the males were constantly bothering the females. At some point one male jumped from one of my QT tanks to the females QT tank, long story short, I ended up with 11 fry. Those are growing well. Females are in their own tank, males are in a tank on the opposite side of the garage.
