    Amazing landscapes and stunning pictures

    I am fortunate enough to live on a smallholding and the peace and quiet with nature's sounds is awesome... very hard to have to live in Town again if the need arose
    Just wish we had the wonderful waterways too..

    The ring canal you see is around polder "De Beemster" , which is on the Unesco heritage-list. The Dutch drained the polder in 1612 with the use of windmills.
    If you look closely the water in it is higher than the surroundings !

    The farmhouses are quite specific for this region and are called stolpboerderij.
    They are build in a special way so they won't sink in the soft clay-bottom.

    The bottom is quite fertile. Diaryproducts are famous, but also potatoes, weat, corn and sugar beets. Beemstercheese is worldfamous - [​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]
