yeap - my other 1/4 always says never underestimate the stupidity an bad taste of the common man, retail relies on it.

Reminded me of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Well done Jenn. Do not and will not stock any coloured fish or Parrots. I was absolutely shocked to find out they actually cut out the tail to make the heart shape.

    Guys,

Instead of posting lunatic environmentalist ramblings on a forum why don't you rather put that energy into an info pack for the shops? Not one with whacky colors and crazy fonts etc. but a profession presentation with photos etc. TASA members can then print out this PDF and take it with to shops. Perhaps this will force SAPTA to take action?

@Henk Hugo I offered to send her some info, but she declined. An info pack would be a good idea. Unfortunately I didn't have one with me at the time. Probably because I didn't know the lunatic environmentalist in me would come out just then. I did what I could with the tools I had on me at the time.

@Jenn the lunatic environmentalist drivel is referring to was the guys saying she should be tattooed etc. As i said an info pack (two or three pages?) explain the process of getting the fish to look like that, the dyeing, tattooing, fin clipping, cross breeding etc should shock some store owners. Perhaps it would also be advisable to get the SPCA involved and perhaps get them to put it on their letterhead. It will carry more weight.

lunatic environmentalist drivel... eish I love biltong even bokkoms ... Learned along time ago activism only gets you into politics. Still I think the message is slowly getting to our LFS's .. even had one on Sunday tell me that I could not get a certain fish since they have only had them for a few days and they still want to make sure all is OK before they sell them. My jaw dropped - but was glad about the honesty, even if she was a smoker.

I have noted a pleasing trend (though slight and fairly sluggish to develop) of LFS's starting to explain the bare basics of fish care and dedicating some tanks to proper quarantine.

I'm glad to hear that about Monkey fountain.
I have spent many hours discussing fish, and how to look after specific species when they arrive.

I mainly did it so that we can get healthy Ottos in JHB
