Brackish Water Setup

Hey,

I eventually got a tank and I'm preparing to setup a system as soon as I can move to my new house.

I've kept brackwater species such as archers, the various scats and mono's, but this was BC (before computer and the interwebs) we had to go by old books and trial and error.

Any pointers, tips and stuff only learnt through experience?

I've had several brackish setups, all of them unique. It all really depends on what you're aiming to create - you could have a brackish community, a vivarium, a predator tank, a specific biotope from somewhere in the world, or just a single species.

All of these, as I said, will in the end create a different effect because all of them have unique aspects. Most of these make interesting displays, however, some can be rather unsightly.

My number one motto for brackish setups/fish (and also quite applicable to most aspects of fishkeeping, really) is to do as much reading as possible. The brackish environment varies from river mouth to river mouth, and often careful attention to detail is needed in order to get everything right.

get your salt from idolmarine in midrand .they are the cheepest
fill it up with and mabe start the cycle again with mollies let it run a few days or so then add mabe 2 or 3 every week as there is plenty of ceramics and bioballs in there for filtration .once all fish are added you can start raising the salinty slowly mabe like 0.2 every week .this worked for me in the past ,if you raise it faster you are going to have minicycles that could cost you fish.speak to moolis at petstop to order you archers and scats.
