Building my new 400 litre + - tank and stand

    IMO you will have to be crazy to make a braceless SF tank and cover it with glass sliders? Or netting : ) What was the point of going braceless then in the first place in that case. Nothing really beats the open top look... If you want to do the tank any justice you will have to buy a decent neat lighting unit. They not that pricey these days. Nice build BTW, I love the fact that your stand is completely recycled. It looks super, good work bud.

    What are you planning on keeping in this tank?

    Thanks so much @Verndog yea all packing case wood xD hahaha ummm im thinkin cardinals and things or maybe rams or both hahaha gonna be planted tho! need to do research on what goes with what still!! quite far away from that tho still need to finish the stand and stuff!!

    As for an update!!

    Filled the tank with water to test and no leaks didnt bow its goood to go!! pitty i had to waste 300 litres of water to test tho :O

    agree with verndog, keep it just like that with a nice modern light unit suspended from the ceiling, skip the sliders, netting and all that

    hahaha i dont know fish kill themselves in my experience!!! im nervous for that route!!

    Anyways bit of an update!

    Aquasoil ordered and collected from @Sean J thanks so much!! cant wait to use the stuff!! got 3 bags for this tank!!

    @wrenchy, give us a pic of that small tank of yours man. Looks like a little 60L planted? Great stand you built. When are you filling the tank?

    haha yea its a little 30litre :D got a thread on it ill post it here for you!! i have filled it just to test and alls good! However only gonna full it, for it to actually run, in a while still got to build the canopy and fix the stand a bit, i.e put on doors and a bit of sanding haha, im at rhodes so can only work on it during the holiday!! :(

    @wrenchy, Cool thanks man. Looks good though. Even the smaller tank looks very nice. What background is that? DIY?

    yea i cant wait for this tank to be ready to give an update!! hahahahaha

    @SloMo.00. ummm nah it came with the marltons kit thing, thats my first tank!! :D sooo learnt a lot from it! now to use that knowledge on this tank :O hahaha I will do an update on that small tank think it looks quite a lot different now!! lotsa growth i think/hope! havnt seen it in a while

    Hey @Ryno Thanks for the interest :D im probably gonna do a lot of work on it during the next month as im on holiday :D, well when im not away i will be :D I still need to make a lid for the tank and fit some doors to the stand :D also need to do some saving for lights and filter media! its getting closer to starting it up :D hehehe i sense it will be fully ready around September :D as things change i will give updates :D so ecited to get it up and running!

    UPDATE!!!!

    So i know its been a long time, but i have been soooo busy!!!

    I started work on my canopy yesterday! Here some pics of my progress! :D
    Just a few questions, what colour should i paint the inside? and how should i prime the wood?? Also what type of paint is good to use??

    All I can say is that the canopy should be white inside. Not sure about what to prime it with but you might be best served by a few coats of very good marine varnish before painting.

    If you plan to use reflectors on your lights then it doesnt have to be white. But if not then white is your best colour to reflect the most light.

    Thanks Guys, White it is! gonna get reflectors as well :D still need to make the lid haha My understanding is pain then varnish? you cant varnish before you paint im sure
