So I have started a new tank. It is going to be low tec. I have to build a hood and do the lighting.
The dimensions are 98L 42H 60W. so it is a really wide tank which will be useful because i will use this tank to view from 3 sides.
Lighting i will put 4* 20W philips tornado bulbs.
    Substrate, PFS.
And here are some pics of the build and tank. I have been busy with the aesthetics changing the ugly top mirrors to a matt black and building a cover for the polystyrene. Also built a hood with malar to reflect as well as cut and treated the wooden cross beams where the lighting will be installed.

Hey... those reflectors and tubes look familiar.

Is that table strong enough to hold the tank with water?

    haha TOTM... maybe
@Zoom yes that the the gear that i got from you. But im not sure if i will use them anymore, change of lighting plans. and as for the table.. yes i think that it can hold such a weight, the legs are a double wood design... but i was thinking that maybe a central wooden pillar just to be safe... dont get much past you :p

I completed my lighting, the hood and the polystyrene cover plate. now to scape and find some driftwood this weekend :D
it is 80W of lighting which should be plenty of light for the low tec plants that i am planning on using.

    @cheekychops nice DIY!

However, and I dont have the article handy right now to post/reference it, but for maximum effect of those type of lights they would need to be orientated longitudinally and not horizontally...

i have filled it up, and gotten some spider wood. the lighting is perfect. i have a lot of java fern that i found sitting at the back of my growout tank so that will go on the wood with an assortment of moss.
Ive never used spiderwood before. Can anybody tell me how long it will take to get the spiderwood saturated so it does not float anymore?

Looking sweeet dude, mine took about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I treated it for 2 days and then I just placed my big piece of mopani wood on it to keep it down and who-la.

What type of fish will you keep in this one?

    Good luck.

im not sure what fish i want. I will deff put my sterbai corys in there. and then it is a choice between some angels or a large group of schooling fish. but im leaning towards the schoolers.

Tank is looking good! Really like the clean appearance - it helps that you have both long sides open!

Yip, the spider wood is pretty thin, so it sinks by itself within a week or two (that's why I hang mine from the top - to give the root-like appearance).

Your Sterbai will love the space!
