Corals,Shells and Rocks

I was lucky to get hold of these corals,shells and rocks.
I think they would look great in a Malawi setup.(Marine look)

Jacques do you know those corals are taken from the sea alive and killed for displays etc?

 

I Do.
It Was in a Marine tank that got busted by movers.Unfortunately the owner has since passed away and his heirs did not know how to keep it alive.(yes it was once live)
After a bout 6 months this is the end product and they graciously gave it to me.(I convinced them not to throw it away)

 

really sad to see....

I'm glad it didnt come from one of those bloody novelty shops that sells these sort of things!

 

I've seen those shops and i will not support them.Besides they spray some sort of varnish on most of the stuff.(Tacky)

 

Well.. there's NO way a live cameo got that size in a tank.. sorry!(1st pic on rght)... to my dismay & argument, i've parents who've dealt in such ... yuk!

 

ummmm - plate corals do grow in marine tanks rather well... mine has grown 6mm or so in a month

 

henk.. didn't mention mushroom's.. just cameo... aint fighting! trying to share is all

 

Oh you are talking about the shell on the right of the 1st pic - not the photo on the right of the 1st set

ps. plates and mushroom = two completely dif corals. plate falls under LPS and shrooms under soft corals

 

Thanks dude... yep, was referring to the shell. NO way it got that big as a live animal in a tank. i know little about live corals... one day when I grow up i'd like to try!

 

next time you come into the big city drop me a pm if you want to come see my marine setups

 

Hey..i'd actually stay away from using old coral structures in malawi tanks..alot of them are very sharp and can easily damage an eye if one of your prized show fish should get spooked and swim into it

 

I have some shells lying around and might want to put them in a tank.

What are the rules? I heard shells are not a good idea and needs to be boiled for weeks.
