i thinking along these lines for multiple tanks

solar water heater for water temp got 2 100 l solar tube heater and main tank temp not controlled with bleed to fish tanks

    for electricity buying 6 panels

either the above or keep one tank

Challenge is the automation battling to find the gadgets and someone who can put it together

Reuben .. it is just not worth the cost to go solar electricity unless you growing more than just aquatic plants.

Now using solar heater water with a heat exchanger in the fish room .. that could be interesting ... but really this is only valid for 4 months out of the year.

water exchanger route complicated extra piping and temp sensors and auto valves

Was chatting to a solar guy and his opinion is to go the solar electricity route less hassles

you also live in Randburg, check your city power bill shocker vat is 15% network charge and the stepped fee
    demand side levy
last time i checked it was R1.71 kW winter close to R2 kW
Solar gets rid of all the fluff the city is ripping me off with

Simple economics when you have a oversupply price should fall

Think its a good investment you can get away with R1 kWh for next 10 years

Yeah all the levies and fees are some month more than the actual power consumption, I suspect we will be billed for our own solar power in the future .. go figure right.

My biggest saving was solar geyser many years ago and gas for the stove. Rest is habit management to some degree.

Personally I am holding out for solar panels that are more than 22% efficient ... 30% and I am all in ;-)

Looking at the pure electricity cost for the fishroom (I have wired the computer onto a non-metered plug)

So under R12 per day ... I am ok with that for now.

    17 tanks indoors ...

3 small heaters at this stage (need to deploy the big ones still) added about 40Wh at the moment.
    5 HOB's
    3 Air pumps
    6 Canisters
    6 Power heads

6 outside - that only use power from 3 air pumps, others have no power consumption at the moment
