Since I restarted with fish I have used Dara Products and have found some work well and some don't, just like other brands, The Aqua Chlor does work for me and I change large volumes of water daily. The proof is in the pudding they say, every pair of Angels and Kribs have spawned and or raising fry. An old saying if it ain't broke, don't fix it. While this product works for me. I will use it.

I've been using bio elite dechlorinator for the last 6 months or so. No problems and does what it says it does. Neutralises chlorine chloramine and heavy metals. I pay R65 per 100ml and that lasts around a month or so.

I rate prime to be the best i have used so far.

    260 for 500ml and 5ml for every 200L ..

Havent tested safeguard? I think it was. Wich is in powder form. Cant remember the name. But heard its even better than prime.

Seachem Safe is dosed at 1.25g per 1250l, a kg will dose 950000l of water. It's the dry concentrated form of Prime.
I believe it's probably the most cost effective water conditioner, but haven't done the maths on all available products

Yea i couldnt remember the name.

I think seachem Safe is the cheapest and most effective on the market to be honest.

Its also cheaper than prime if i am not mistaken.

No idea just guessing here as ive never looked at it in the fish store.

Mostly just grab what i know and go stare at the fishies haha.

I used aquasafe before prime ( when i just started ) that doses 5ml for every 10l

Doesnt last long.. and for some reason i always got ICK

Since i started using prime i havent had any problems in my tanks.

And in fact, the water quality got worse after i started using prime.

So that is nr1 on my list until i find safe and use it haha

@Jwh, do you have an idea of price for the Seachem Safe. With the dosing you posted, this could be a very interesting product. I have used some other Seachem products and found them to work well.

    Thanks

Last time I bought was around R850/kg, I think the current price is around R1100/kg. There's a range of sizes available but obviously the price/kg will increase. Let me also add I use a higher (double) dose than the recommended dose as per label, purely cause Seachem reduced the dose to around 1/8 of what it used to be, and I feel that somewhat too low.
That's my take, so I would recommend you stay with the labeled dose.

I had a problem with Daro Aqua Chlor last week.

I wanted to cycle a tank from start with it to maybe replace my Seachem Prime to save on Costs.

I added drops as per the instructions to mt 60L 2ft tank after filter + Heater was running +/- 30 minutes with new water added. The following afternoon I added 5x tiger barbs to test the water with and immediately 2 out of the 5 were upside down. Immediately I added 1/4 cap prime and within a minute max all of them started to swim normal again the tank is running stable on 25 degrees Celcius.

Is this because their might be Chloramines / Amonia in this water and not just chlor?

Perhaps not enough of the one product for the time factor involved. Without actual readings in between, going to be very difficult to pin point.

I took 60L /4 * 3 = 45, based on back side of bottle and added 45 - 50 drops max. That was around 18:00 Pm on 10th May then on 11th May 18:30 I added the Tiger Barbs.

Unsure then what happened. I must maybe take a glass bottle of water to my LFS store and let them test for everything to see if there might be anything else I'm missing?
The thing is with Seachem I never tested my water till date and the worst problem I experiences was Ick after I added a fish I bought from the fish store directly to my tank instead of putting it in a quarantine tank first.

Now that I think of it I never checked the expiration date as well and I only also remember that the drops were a light blue color, will just confirm if product expired for in case that might have been the problem.

I'm don't think declorinators have an expiry date, my containers of Prime and Safe don't. Would probably use within 2-3years of purchase

    Thanks!

Only problem then still is that my water most probably contains more than just chlorine

High likelihood of chloramines as well, Prime/Safe will remove this, not sure about the Daro product though

    Hi!

I'm a little late to the party, but I have done some math a while ago.

I want to make some more changes sometime, but here is the link to the spreadsheet.

Seachem Safe is the cheapest. Then I would go for Scape Dechlorination, then Seachem Prime/Aquavitro Alpha.
