@MadHatter they only get babies once a month and take 3 months + to grow up so you don't have to dedicate so much time to it

Okayyy ill join, but in the new year tho... funds are on the down low at the moment ...

Can females carry a black gene? ( full black fins / body )?

And if im correct black is dominant?

Am thinking of doing a fish where the females look similar to males...

Black body, muti color fins, clear head.. ( could call it HB, but want it a little further up the body, right behind the gills)

They can carry the black gene but would not necessarily show it.

 

Came home to a dead blond male guppy. This is so depressing, but my husband said we'll go guppy hunting this weekend to cheer me up a bit. I had big plans for mr. Barbie and now.......dead.
I were going to go guppy hunting anyway to find him the perfect Harlem but alas.

Yeah him and his new friends are still in quarantine. I planning on doing a water change and adding some extra salt and epsom to the tank. Didn't want to add to much salt at once.
I'm considering getting some seachem stability and stress to help prevent deaths when getting new fish.

 

I sorry for the loss. I hate bying LPS guppies. They all just die.....

The tails need some cleaning up but that may get better with age otherwise some good looking fish.
Know someone that might kill you for those blues @Ladysphinx

Start with a simple goal, don't try to over complicate it.

My goal for my Snakeskins are pure strain breeding yellow Snakeskin with a large tail like the male.

Yeah well their going to have to fight me cause I'm not going to give them up without a fight lol. I've been looking for some blue males for a while.

Had another batch of babies from a definite snakeskin female she's yellow but also very pretty her brother is one of my challenge males. She gave me 14 babies. She's big for her age so there's hope for her.

Might use her for another strain at some point. Maybe get some real beautiful yellow snakeskins with a clear pattern.

 

@MadHatter I know what you mean. I'm going to try for blue snakeskin guppy strain which will be interesting as I have blue guppies without the snakeskin gene and yellow guppies with the snakeskin gene. My first mission is to breed my yellow snakeskin male with my blue female and get the snakeskin gene in there. I will probably then breed one of the F1 fry with their mother and tthe bluest females to the blue males to get some pure blue in there. Hopefully my F2 generation will show some blue snakeskin but I probably wouldn't be that lucky.
I'm still trying to find some info on snakeskin genetics to help me decide which plan of action would be best.
