    Hi prof,

A very strange thing happened tuesday when i woke up, one of my discus fish turned almost black with blue stripes overnight and have been eversince, hes perfectly healthy and eat very well, as for all of my other discus. A very beautiful discus I might say. Is there something wrong with him? I cant see anything wrong with him.

    Regards

    Hannes

    Hi Hannes,

Discus can do the weirdest things and change from perfectly healthy to very sick in a matter of hours. I would move the temp up to at least 31 C, but give enough aeration and I would add salt at 1 heaped tablespoon per litre to relieve stress, but I would do nothing else.

    Keep me updated.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Uhm.... 1 heaped Tablespoon of salt weighs roughly 30gr.... dissolved in a liter of water - this will give you a concentration of 30kg per thousand liters...that is roughly equal to Marine Water conditions.... @Dirk Bellstedt - hope we caught this one in time...

You right Shawn. Think Dirk had a typo. It would be 1heaped tablespoon per 100 liters.

Whoops yes, sorry, I did mean 1 heaped tablespoon per 100 litres!

    Thanks for pointing this out.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Prof,

Sorry it took so long to give an update, I didnt want to become too excited and tell you before I waited a while to see what the result was. The result is, back to normal! After I posted I could see that the fish was sick, but now healthy again. Its so facsinating to see the progress and the others behavior towards poopies "the sick discus", I think the name suits well. Anyway the dominant discus at feeding time "cared" for poopies. He made shure poopies got something to eat before the others would eat all the food. It was so adorable!! It was amazing.

    Thank you for the advice

    Kind regards

    Hannes

Oh yes I forgot to tell you, I also wasnt to sure about the amount of salt to add to the water. Luckily I could read the instructions on the packaging of the salt!
