Discus fry

This PB is going all spotty.

Have a look at this fish's vertical baring it is broken on line 4 and 7 and only on one side of it body is this a common thing to happen in fry?

































































pic 5 is a bit of a better shot of broken bar fry.

 

Last update before they are shipped to Namibia.

Those broken lines are nothing to worry about. They could be caused by moving them into new water when they were tiny, but this is all speculation as far as I am concerned. However, there is nothing wrong with them at all.

Well it’s been 5 months since the last update and the fry are not fry no more. After their long journey up from Cape Town to Windhoek (All thanks to Johan) they settled nicely and then all of a sudden like discus do 3 decided to be no longer but after Dirks intervention with a 70’s remedy all was well again and I am left with 8 out of the 11 first sent.

I have to run them on 100% RO water as our borehole water at the farm is at the opposite end of the scale of what Discus prefer. The TDS is around 800p/p/m, the hardness is on 18 KH (tested with a Sera KH test) and the PH is on 8.5.

Anyway here are the pics of the now 10 month old Discus. It has been a very enlightening and humbling experience to say the least.

 

Fish are looking good. The one in the last pic looks quite a bit bigger than the rest?

Thanks guys and gals for all the kind words, it means a lot after all the time :bebored: and lets not forget the money spent :damnmate: on these fish.

 

It's well worth it.

 

Just a couple of more shots and also a full tank shot.

 

So the time has come for the circle of life to be completed and it has happened twice now, yes this is the second batch they have spawned, the first time I turned the cone and they promptly ate the eggs which I expected they would do.



These photos are at the 24 hour mark from spawning and they are in a community tank so I am only expecting to see if the eggs have been fertilized not the full deal, so let’s see what happens.

 

So its been 2 years now since these fish were bred a now I can say they are truly adults. There fins have developed beautifully especially the dorsal fins on the bigger of the 6.
I am still in two mind if I like the fins drooping or not but I would like to hear from @Marco and @aquazulu if there is a history of this in bigger older Discus, I am of the thinking that it is due to the amount of crossing of bloodlines of which I have done as well to get these as @Dirk would call them mongrels (I prefer pavement specials). Anyway please all feel free to comment on this if you have a idea.
